Re: Advanced Storage Techniques on ships???
Too powerful IMO - the planets benefit is good enough.

Re: Advanced Storage Techniques on ships???
rd,
I think you answered your own question. It would be too big an advantage over others, also in space it isn't size but weight that matters so no matter how little room 100 kt takes it still is 100kt and needs the same amount of power to move. ( So your ships maybe a few meters shorter than others but still weight the same.)

Re: Advanced Storage Techniques on ships???
How about a completely new racial tech/advantage called "larger hulls" or something that gives 20% larger hulls at rather high cost?
And/or "Miniaturization Technology" that gives 20% smaller components? Could be a real ***** to actually fill a hull to capacity, but still.
The two can of course not be combined.

It be a BIG advantage IMO to have 1200Kt instead of 1000Kt on a DN, dontcha' think?? Even 180Kt instead of 150Kt on an escort is an advantage. Maybe it could be applied to components instead - a 20% reduction in the size of the component. Unfortunately, I have had no time to do any mods myself.
Any ideas anyone???
As others have said, what you describe would probably be too MUCH of an advantage. I do wonder, though, why races with advanced storage techniques couldn't get greater supply capacity and greater cargo capacity on their ships...

Re: Advanced Storage Techniques on ships???
Thanks everyone for the response.
Baron,
I think there already is a racial trait to extend supplies; I think its Advanced Power Conservation or something like that. However I do like the idea of increased storage capacity. Maybe if I made a mod that DECREASED the Kt of components for a specific racial tech / advantage.
Maybe this is not possible; any modders know the answer. I'm interested in this not for me, but for the AI. I like to play out my battles in tactical mode and that (tactical) gives a big advantage to a human player vs. strategic (move, fire, move and other tactics). I know that I could choose not to use some of those unfair advantages, but that's difficult in practice to say "Now don't do that 'cause you'll win too easily." However, I would love the challange of trying to take out ships that have 20% more firepower than mine. I think it might even help balance the AI within tactical combat mode.

Re: Advanced Storage Techniques on ships???
Along these lines...
I'd like something technologically researched like "Minaturization":
Name := Miniaturization
Group := Theoretical Science
Description := The science of developing technology to its least possible size for space conservation.
Maximum Level := 2
Level Cost := 50000
Start Level := 0
Raise Level := 1
Racial Area := 0
Unique Area := 0
Can Be Removed := True
Number of Tech Req := 0
Each level gives each of the following:
Long Name := Micro/Nano Device Mount
Short Name := Micro/Nano Mount
Description := Micro/Nano Device mounts reduce the tonnange and suply requirements of a device by 75/50 percent.
Code := m/n
Cost Percent := 150/200
Tonnage Percent := 75/50
Tonnage Structure Percent := 75/50
Damage Percent := 75/50
Supply Percent := 75/50
Range Modifier := 0
Vehicle Size Minimum := 0
Vehicle Type := Any

Re: Advanced Storage Techniques on ships???
rdouglass: The logical answer to this would be Advanced Storage Techiniques isn't the same thing as what you're talking about. While I think it *should* affect things like Supply Storage containers and Cargo containers, it wouldn't necessarily mean you should get bigger ships That should be another racial trait altogether, like maybe Giant Race would constitute something like what you're talking about. I suppose you could read Micronization into Advanced Storage, I don't think the two are exactly synonomous. One is the science of making electronic gadgets smaller, Adanced Storage is just more efficient packaging/storing methods. Though Nanotech would be a cool addition, I think. Just my 2 cents worth
