Saber Cherry to the rescue.

Atleast now I know why my mod didn't work. Already started making a list of the weapon and armour stats but it seems AP reduction isn't listed anywere?

AP reduction is equal to equipment encumbrance. Humans have a base 12 AP, 3 encumbrance, so giving them Full Chain Mail (3 enc) moves them to 9 AP, 6 encumbrance.

Minimum AP tanks to encumbrance is 2 then?

No - 3. AP 2 meanse sessile (nonmotile, immobile, nonmoving). So encumbrance can drop you only to 3.
