yah, I dunno.

how about a gentlemans agreement limiting the total clams you build to 10 or something?

I mean, no answer is perfect, but at least 10 is worth something, w/out going overboard

edit: also, we might want to wait to make sure that victory conditions aren't bugged like they were in the Sweetback game.

No, build a few clams by all means. But please, don't make clams into a significant source of gem income. It's up to each individual to figure out when "a few clams" has become "clam-hoarding".
