Re: MP Game - Faerun Game on Mosehansen: House Rules.
Sorry I cannot play on such a large map - I play on a laptop (I am a road warrior) large maps slow down my computer too much.

Does it slow your computer down when going from one turn to the next, or all the time, when looking around the map, giving your orders, etc?
I ask because even on my fairly decent desktop rig, with the really large maps it takes some time to get to the next turn. This isn't an issue with someone else hosting - all the overhead and CPU hogging calculations of random events for each process only happens on the hosting computer.
So - if your laptop is okay except for when going to the next turn, you might still be able to play the Faerun map in the game.

Re: MP Game - Faerun Game on Mosehansen: House Rules.
The other issue he might be concerned about is that large maps are graphically demanding. The Dom2 graphics engine is very inefficient due to being written for compatibility, not performance, and a laptop GPU may not be up to the task of rendering very large maps.

Maybe - but the map display doesn't seem (on my system) to be a bottleneck, nor should it be. I wrote graphics engines to display maps on Unix and Windoze (raster and bmp file maps), and only needed to implement tiling for maps over 50 megabytes in size.
I think it's more likely to be the between-turn processing - but then, I haven't tried on a laptop, so you might be right.
Waiting to hear from him, or others who have the problem with large maps.
