Life drain has absolutely nothing to do with MR, so there would be no point in that.

Spell focus and similar items only affect spells. Innate abilities like mind bLast or magic items like trident from beyond (kills one person with MR save) do not gain any benefit from a spell focus.

Didnt think so, but its that one tidbit of information that you DONT ask about that ends up being worth its weight in gold. Ahh well.
