Re: Turn 34
You know, when I first started this game I thought I was in a good position. Then I realized I had two stupid water nations on either border.

Re: Turn 34
I only have two turns in, it has not been 24 hours, but I am afraid we have lost some momentum.
Jazzepi,
In my opinion, I was in the worst starting location. Right between land nations, both very capiable of blitz. I would be open to debate, though.
Lucky for me, my neigbors where both nice. I could have been partitioned easier than Poland. Eventually I had to choose sides.
I thought you had it made way over there, alone in the west. Pangaea seemed in a very nice position. I have not been in your shoes, but give me two water nations as neighbors against two land nations anyday.

Re: Turn 34
Hi, I am one of those "stupid water nations". And now it is payback time.

My problem is that I've been attacked three times on both my nothern and southern fronts. It's nearly impossible for me to advance past my eastern border because of the constant threat of sea invasion. Even though I've been able to repel the attacks, I can't really punish either nation for attacking me. For water nations, there's no threat of retaliation early game, so they can basically raid all they want.
Now, notably I was able to crush all three attacks on both sides 0 But now there's this stupid SC. I should have given him more afflictions when I had the chance! I'm not very good at dealing with SCs, especially not with pangea.
I also picked a very bad pretender God. I won't even go into that, but I could have used the points elsewhere to help boost my income. Pangea has serious issues with intense army upkeep.
IMHO Sauroman clearly had the best starting position. He had a very tiny coastline, and lots of territory to expand into, plus a border to back his empire into.
I think for this reason wrap around maps are much more realistic and interesting. Being in the corner of the map has huge advantages.

Re: Turn 34
Same holds for Abysia, he is at the edge of the map with lots of territory as well.
Not to say I was not happy with my position, though being at the coast can be a disadvantage as well...
Wrap-around maps are fun indeed, I agree.
I just expanded aggressively and with clear targets, I picked my scales carefully for that goal, which of course came at a certain cost ;-)

Re: Turn 34
I begin to think these Sauromatians have something against the humble people of Abysia... I remember the words of this warmonger-lord when the war began: "At last." The words fail me...
