Long load/save time
SE V 1.35, BM 1.07, large galaxy (around 100 systems), 1 human empire against 10 AI empires in team mod after almost 100 turns. Athlon 64 3400+ CPU, 512 MB RAM.
The savegames are about 28MB large (see attached .rar file 20.6MB!) and it takes several minutes to load or to save (longer than processing the turn)! This probably will make me abandon this game.
Anyone had similar problems with loading/saving games??

Re: Long load/save time
What are the AI's ship and unit counts? Also what are your ship's experience points like as well?

Re: Long load/save time
See the attachment.
I want to know if the long loading time is a problem of my system before I report it to MM.
Interestingly the problem seems to be temporary as the next turns had again a reasonable loading/saving time. Perhaps it is caused by some combat reports??
PS. I forgot to tell that for this game the Balance Mod version 1.07 is in a folder called "Balance Mod v107" not "Balance Mod v105+"!

Re: Long load/save time
It actually froze my SE:V... you might want to forward it to MM.
Also any word on your ship's experience?

Re: Long load/save time
Thank you for trying it Kwok.
My ship experience is rather high (up to veteran) as I play with psychic trait and have the ship/fleet training facilities.
I reported the problem to MM.

Re: Long load/save time
It happened again and worse. After a couple of combats in one turn the savegame file exploded from 3MB to 25MB and the combat replay from 2.4MB to 44MB. I can load the game but when I process the turn without doing anything else and only one minefield combat occuring in this turn, I cannot save the game anymore. The computer freezes in the process of saving the game.
This is a game stopping bug! Anybody had similar problems?

Re: Long load/save time
I haven't had that happen, but I've recently have had slowdown problems during the combat resolution step during ai turns.

Re: Long load/save time
I've had some long save time problems... but I think mine are mostly that there are some serious memory leaks that progressively slow down everything (including saving and more critically mouse response) after a few turns.
Saving, quiting and restarting speeds everything up for me, including save times.

Re: Long load/save time
Got a reply from MM:
"We found the problem and fixed it. The problem is that there are hundreds of combat log message being added to each of the computer players. Since they are all allied, and they all share combat reports, each one was getting a report for every other player (11 players x 11 players). The game now checks to be sure that you don’t already have a combat report for a specific battle before adding a new one."
Good work Aaron!
