Default Translation please?

A gentleman named Drake posted this could someone please explain it to me in laymans terms?
Quote:
I use 50% happiness and usually go with temporal tech. Not only do you get the faster build rate, the vacation service facility has double the effect of the other +happiness facilities.
I pick 81% env resistance. 5% drops you 2% in pop growth, independant of anything else, contrary to common sense. Also, the cutoff is at the 0/1 and 5/6 points, so if you round things off, you hurt yourself more.

With the points from env. resistance, I set reproduction higher. I get enough to set reproduction to 110%, gaining a +6% total, and get 225 pts for free. If you don't need a higher growth rate, it's a great bargain.

Advanced storage. I can't imagine not playing with it anymore. It TOTALLY blows away increasing my individual resource productions, because those bonuses are summed with population and happiness bonuses before being multiplied with your production. Adding 20% more facilities? That's a boost to your base production - all other modifiers also affect the +20% fully without getting a reduced value. PLUS you can siphon off population from your homeworld early without dropping below 2000K, and losing your 10% population bonus. Another major plus.

He seems to have to concept of min/maxing down quite well. Do what he does, and be happy. Or don't and still have fun.

Ah! Okay, familiar with the term min/maxing enough to get the jist of this.

I thought he was describing a bug or glitch.

Fyron is an unknown quantity at this point

Drake does seem to have some things wrong there though. 5 points of Environmental Resistance equals 1 point of Reproduction and 1 point of happiness.

I think that 50% happiness would be a bad idea, because planets will lose any sort of happiness bonus really quickly.

Well, I could be wrong about the min/max -- this could be a challenging role play situation.

Here is my interpretation of what was said. I hope I am correct in translation. I am not commenting on the accuracy of what was said.

REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT

I am not commenting on the accuracy of what was said.

I use 50% happiness and usually go with temporal tech. Not only do you get the faster build rate, the vacation service facility has double the effect of the other +happiness facilities.
He reduces his racial trait for happiness to 50% (from 100%) in order to increase the number of racial points he has to spend on other things. He picks temporal technology for his race. Temporal technology has shipyards that are faster than regular shipyards. The temporal vacation facility is more effective than other facilities that are used to increase happiness. In theory, this will compensate for having dropped your happiness trait to 50%.

I pick 81% env resistance. 5% drops you 2% in pop growth, independant of anything else, contrary to common sense. Also, the cutoff is at the 0/1 and 5/6 points, so if you round things off, you hurt yourself more.
He sets his environmental resistance trait to 81% (from 100%). Every 5% of change in environmental resistance reduces your population growth (per year) by 2%. 81% is a much better number than 80% because due to the application of the formula, the population growth penalties occur at 85% and 80% (not at 84%, 83%, 82%, or 81%) By implication, you should never set this trait to 85%, 84%, 83%, or 82% as there is no effective difference from these numbers and 81%.

With the points from env. resistance, I set reproduction higher. I get enough to set reproduction to 110%, gaining a +6% total, and get 225 pts for free. If you don't need a higher growth rate, it's a great bargain.
Reducing environmental resistance to 81% gives more points to spend. He spends these to increase his reproduction rate to 110% (from 100%). This gives him an additional 6% of population growth which balances the loss due to environmental resistance. This costs 225 points less than the gain from reducing the environmental resistance.

He addresses the benefits of choosing advanced storage. It is a very useful trait in that it allows 20% more facilities per planet, 20% more population (I think), and 20% more storage (I think). This just makes your empire behave as if it is 20% larger before you apply multipliers.

Quote:

Adding 20% more facilities? That's a boost to your base production - all other modifiers also affect the +20% fully without getting a reduced value. PLUS you can siphon off population from your homeworld early without dropping below 2000K, and losing your 10% population bonus. Another major plus.
Again, we are confronted with the wisdom of using this trait. As a micromanagement note, you now are in a position to remove more population from your home planet before reducing it to a level that loses population growth bonuses.

I hope this helps you understand what is going on. If you have not already done it, I suggest strongly that you expose yourself to the Dubious Strategy Guide. It is a collection of strategic and tactical notes posted on this forum. It will improve your abilities virtually overnight.

Good Luck and Enjoy

Dean
