The formation has at least 29 slots. The compact formation, which I have used has the 29. Also Dark Wing has 26.

The simultaneous resoltion of movement and combat firing should include oportunity fire or just like we have target priorities, we could have target fire priorities like:

The system that you are proposing, works well with many games including "fleet" type combat.

Definitely agree with you that ships defending warp points should get a first fire...

And do not forget to set the Computer Player Difficulty and Bonus to high. With TDM this should give you a good challenge. While you are at it make sure you start in a small quadrant.

The idea is to inject another element into the game and that is the quality of the crew and captain.

I am leaning towards a generic captain (and staff) who will positively influence the ship....
