Re: New MP Game - Tobination

Go ahead! If you like, my own Wiki software I am using is available for free. Just click on the 'roWiki'-button in the upper right corner...

Re: New MP Game - Tobination

Sounds good - can't wait to start (^_^)

And I set up the website to go with the game. You can find the "Tobination"-Wiki at

http://www.rowlff.de/tobination/

It's an experiment, of course,...

Re: New MP Game - Tobination

On a different note: Do you intend to have a forum or similar to accompany the game? I have had the experience that it can be quite useful (and fun) to have a website for a PBEM game, where the...

Re: PBEM server - first beta Online

Thanks for the tip - but no change! I'll continue testing, but fear I have run into a wall here (>_<)
Hopefully Dom3 will introduce a separate server that's easier to use in textmode... but for the...

Re: PBEM server - first beta Online

Interestingly enough, having the '--textonly' parameter didn't help, either.
Here's the command I use:

dominions2 --tcpserver --port 4040 --noclientstart --uploadtime 0 --mapfile aran.map...

Re: PBEM server - first beta Online

I've tried this (and several other approaches) already! The problem remains that whatever way I try to open 'Dominions II', as soon as the original call is coming from PHP, 'Dominions II' can't...

Re: PBEM server - first beta Online

Good to hear that you seem to like it - it's still a way to go, when it comes to automatic hosting, though: The fact that there's no standalone server, and you have to more or less start the complete...

Re: PBEM server - first beta Online

I use PHP 5's built in SQLite as a database (which is the reason I didn't go with the more widespread Version 4).
That gives me full SQL capabilities without having to install anything else...

PBEM server - first beta Online

Like discussed in the recent 'PBEM recommendations'-thread, I have been working on a fully automatic PBEM server for 'Dominions II'.
This system, while easy to install (needing only PHP5 and a...

Re: PBEM game: Advice and/or recommendations?

Like you said, Gandalf: There always more than one way to do it. I prefer the database approach, because it allows for so much more flexibility in aggregating data. A list of all games you play? Just...

Re: PBEM game: Advice and/or recommendations?

Thanks for the offer, Gandalf! Like I said, I'll most likely be able to host something like this myself come the beginning of next year, but the more offers, the better!

As to the simplicity, I am...

Re: PBEM game: Advice and/or recommendations?

Of course, the system we're aiming for would have to do all you describe - and you're right that it's pretty much a standard framework in regard to authorization and such.

But to be frank, without...

Re: PBEM game: Advice and/or recommendations?

I found the thread you mentioned, Gandalf. Definitely an interesting read...

And I started running some tests: Hosting regular turns once you get the .2h files from the players is easy enough from...

Re: PBEM game: Advice and/or recommendations?

@Gandalf: I'll try and dig that up...

@deccan: We could join forces, no?
And how hard could it be? I've only been doing a little thinking, but I am quite confident it's possible to get a nice...

Re: PBEM game: Advice and/or recommendations?

And before I forget: If you do start that PBEM game, Avocet... count me in (as soon as I get my full Version of the game, that is)!

Re: PBEM game: Advice and/or recommendations?

@Gandalf: Thanks for the tip! I guess I'll take that opportunity, even before I get this demo game running (^_^)

@PashaDawg: You identified the problem... not many hosts would like to go after...

Re: PBEM game: Advice and/or recommendations?

Thanks for the good advice, Alneyan. Sounds very reasonable...

I am currently thinking along the same lines as Avocet, with the difference of wanting to host a 'demo' game, to help myself and all...
