I agree that TDM is a nice AI to practice your strategic skills on before branching out to human players. Also, the team mode will prevent you from getting ridiculous concessions from the AI....

Couldn't one start a game and "sit on one's hands" for X turns to do that? It wouldn't be as rich as a scenario you are describing, but would give the AI a head start.

The AI in SEIV does not "cheat" in the same sense as Civ, where all of the computer players start out with knowledge of the entire map, or the old Strategic Conquest games where the starting computer...
