Tank Desants represent tank riders, not the regimental level smg company these had 9-10 man squads.
there are is already alot of smg squads, just not a smg company formation.

According to the red army handbook ,each infantry regiment contained a smg company (company hq, 3 plts, 3 sqds each). as for as I know this isn't in the soviet obb

from what I remember max range for these units can be something like 1000-2000 meters away. is it historically accurate to use them at these ranges?
I'll try out the scout suppersion technique.

this is related "when to fire" question. . I usually have my machine guns fire around 500-600 meters from the enemy in support of infantry squads. since infanty combat seems to be more deadly...

If that where the case you would expect similiarly high proportion of german scenarios in ever sp type game. But Spwaw and even MBT (again, not ww2) have much more vareity. Spwaw has two Soviet Union...

historically HE shells, even while not being able to penetrate armour, if large enough can crack armour just from the concussive forces of being hit with say a 122mm artillery shell.

this is a very basic question: I'm noticing the ai,specifically infantry, opens fire as soon as it within the max range of its weapons on my own infantry. I know at these long ranges 10 hexes (500m)...

steel panthers is not a german army only game. and it shouldn't be. I think people would perfer more variety than a focus on a single nation, which the polls shows.

I'm fairly satisfied with your replys. I did look at the questtionaire, and perferred nation for campigns was 33% germany and 30% USSR, yet there isn't a single Red army campign.

I've noticed this too. I regulary take casualties from infantry fire, at 500m, I don't remember this happening to often in MBT.
Although I found infantry to tough in MBT, I have inf. tough set at...
