Especially with the bug in the to hit/to miss modifier! The only drawback to large Groups of fighters is IF you get hit by a high damage weapon you have more potential losses and they still die like...

That would probably work better.
Definately make the AI a defender, possibly with lots of cloaked ships, WP, fighters, mines and sats to surprise the supriser.

Dev mod is also excellent.There are a lot of new things in it. Latest Version is 1.31 I think. Only two new races but lots of new ship/components.

The first shot/move is a BIG advantage in WP combat but not so big in other types. If you take out the AI leader ship on the first shot in a WP battle you get two shots/moves without return fire....

I think the way it works is that the filler techs are alway chosen if another tech needs to be researched. So in your example the two filler techs would continue to be the next two techs chosen until...

I agree, it is too easy to gain multiple techs this way. Maybe it could be limited to one tech advance total per turn/ship.

Unless you memorize the formations I have no idea how you tell which one is the fleet leader. Maybe you can tell by watching the AI move. The first to move is the leader, I think.
