Re: War is boring link

Prefer something between battalion- or regimental-sized forces. Maybe 50-100 individual units/vehicles/batteries total. Much more than that my Godlike concern for each precious instrument of martial...

Re: #338--Fintel Ridge special woods rule

Agreed. It seems to mean "skirting" the woods by only moving into woods-edge hexes. And I've got the same quandary about a small woods (or "copse") with each woods hex being adjacent to a non-woods...

#338--Fintel Ridge special woods rule

Hi everybody. There's a "highly recommended" rule for size 4 and above vehicles in Weasel's Red Army scenario. It says:

"All size 4 and larger vehicles may only move through a single woods hex to...

Re: Red Dawn #263 Antonito

Good write-up. Seems like you're becoming an expert at defense. BTW you need only an 8:1 ratio to decisively beat the AI, not 10:1. Also it doesn't matter battle points-wise whether a tank's crew...

Re: Random Battle Balance

Better save your breath. This guy isn't listening. Personally don't play generated battles but after hundreds of scenarios it's patently obvious that assaults are more challenging than defending....

Re: SCENARIOS!

Interesting. In scenario #77 --Marines Return to North Korea, by CB Blackard--a B-1 bomber dropped its load of 84 500-lb gravity bombs along a trenchline which might've caused 10-15 casualties among...

Re: Bending WinSPMBTs rules

Well, don't infantry spot better than anything else? Try doing Scenario #61--El Al. You'll find that a paucity of infantry will result in your tank-heavy force being all-but-obliterated by enemies...

Re: Highway 281

Good on yer Old Gamer. Sounds like a real barn-burner. Haven't played it yet but if God gives me strength...and time.

BTW for the information of all hands it's Scenario #259. Cheers and happy...

Re: Controversial no doubt but worth watching

Yeah. Definitely food for thought. When I mentioned Srebrenica to a Dutch acquaintance he didn't wanna talk about it. BTW did you know Niall Ferguson is married to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Muslim...

Re: COIN Aircraft?

Okey-doke, much obliged, thanks for clearing that up. Next time I won't try to use Paveways on soft targets. It can be taught!

COIN Aircraft?

Pardon my ponderous stupidity, but what exactly does "COIN Aircraft" refer to? In the game manual it says,

"UnitClass 223=COIN Fighter Plane
Clone of Fighter-Bomber, but it is less...

Re: Wild Coincidence

Yuppy-wup. In retrospect ALL blowbacks were my own fault. In the first case (Scen #203) the engineer tank was knocked out by carelessly targeting the strike within 20 hexes of my guys (see Andy's...

Re: Wild Coincidence

Yeah, only reason I said it was "one-sided" was 'cuz the first couple attempts at it my guys got hung up getting through barbed wire north of the first VH. It made sense to try a longer approach...

The Izzies invented ERA? Wasn't aware of that. Anyway good on 'em, they stand like a rock against the jihadi flood tide.

Fortunately less sanguinary progress has been made elsewhere. F Company has secured three buildings, pinning down enemy units with dismounted mech infantry before faster wheeled APCs loaded with...

Re: Question about movement's effect on accuracy of fire

Good question. IIRC the game manual says that if a unit moves at least half its MPs a flag goes up. It also says that if you don't move on the turn you fire, but moved on the turn before, you're...

Re: WinSPMBT version 10.0 Upgrade patch

You can say that again. Some cats got it and some ain't. Just one semester of BASIC was enough to convince me that programming was far beyond my puny abilities.

Still, it seems calling Andy a God...

Re: WinSPMBT version 10.0 Upgrade patch

As a proponent of KISS I'd prefer to scrap the proposed change if there's any risk of unintended consequences to gameplay. If it ain't broke don't fix it and all that. Just my two centavos' worth....

Re: Target hex density in spww2?

OK, but in an advance or assault you're gonna need lots of smoke. Within a few turns artillery supplies can be exhausted while onboard AFV rounds or dischargers are often insufficient. Infantry may...

Re: Forum Activity

Maybe they're diligently mining the threads for information and tips. SP is as much a research project as a wargame; even grizzled grognards need refresher courses from time to time. With a constant...
