It was only too big for Dom 2 because of the low unit limit and the scouting bug.
But remember Illwinter said the maximum number of provinces for Dom3 will be 1500 ...

May i ask what you disliked about RTW?
I found RTW a major improvement over the old Shogun/Medieval system.

The new province system with traveling armies is imho better than the old system...
