Re: Answering the Critics

Especially since you can "upgrade" each "tile" with as many as 7 items or so, not to mention experience, prophetizing, heroic abilities, and empowerment. ...

Re: High PD kinda useless.

Consider PD in terms of maintainence free chaff, but _not_ as a replacement for troops. If you had something like 30 PD plus 10-20 troops, maybe a mage or priest (for sermon of courage), you'd...

Re: Patch Improvements

Which is yet another reason why the person who wins the mercs gets a big leg up : anyone else who bids is generally setback compared to if they hadn't bid. Mind, I'm not sure that losing 4 points of...

Re: SP: Save game and quit behaviour

I always hit 'E' and curse because I didn't issue orders and wanted to quit out, and instead processed a turn because SP and MP behavior on 'e' is different....

Re: Answering the Critics

No to mention the fact that in the Civ games, a single primitive spearman can destroy a battleship or an aircraft carrier. That kind destroys any semblance of credibility for the game, imo.

Re: Patch Improvements

One improvement that would really be nice : An option to _not_ have any mercenaries show up for the first 10 (or X) turns. An awful lot of Dom2 games had to use "no hiring mercenaries the first 10...

Re: Patch Improvements

Are you talking the spell? Or the blessing? Because the blessing isn't +3 attack / + 3 defense, nor is it really 2 actions per turn.

As far as the spell goes, it no longer allows casting two...

Re: Top of the Hit List: C\'tis, Arcos, Ulm!

Turn six went out last night, sometime around midnight Eastern Standard.

Re: How do you guys/gals do it?

That's a bit like saying "This model of car having a top speed of 20 MPH is a good thing - I can enjoy the scenery, and besides which I didn't want to get to work anyway".

Re: Email notification programs

Easy enough in Linux/Unix, even without Perl. You could just setup a shell script in your choice of shell, invoke mail/pine/elm/etc for each player sending the appropriate turn file.

Re: Patch Improvements

I suspect map-creation can be sped up significantly if the graphics / message updating code is tweaked.

Re: \"Old Age\" system in Dom3 - need some info

I'm also curious about the interaction between Old Age (afflictions, and dying from it), and immortality. It seems that regular healing (arco priestesses) couldn't do anything for age-inflicted...

Re: On the cusp...

Frankly, I agree with some of what the guy says. Not map generation - that should happen rarely enough that even for SP it should be acceptable (although it seems that more maps shiped for Dom2, and...

Re: Middle Era, Cradle of Dominion PBEM

I got turn 3 also, and yes, only one from Arco. But turn two had 8 from Arco.

Re: \"Old Age\" system in Dom3 - need some info

Ah - the "balancing" that thinks that a Crone pretender, who starts 250 or so years into old age, and has no special abilities, is only worth 35 points less than the Great Sage or Master Druid, both...

Re: Manual Typos

Ewww. The problem is that for national summons, it winds up jumping helter-skelter : Shinumaya for example goes Conj-3, Conj-5, Conj-1, etc, going up and down. I see now that it's astral, then...

Re: Bug thread

Sheesh. When Oceania's stealthy commanders go onto dry land, they change into a form that is a _poor_ amphibian. Worse, when the Capricorns go onto land, they can't _MOVE_. In fact, the only...

Re: Middle Era, Cradle of Dominion PBEM

Yep, it's definately a bug - I've seen Arco entries in the HoF in games that Arco wasn't even in. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Sometimes with the same name as my own...

Re: Manual Typos

Not exactly a typo, but :

Couldn't the manual's spell lists and whatnot have been sorted in _some_ fashion? They're not alphabetical. They're not sorted by school of magic, or by magic level. ...

Re: Is there a way to discover a forgotten password?

Problem is that people upload a pretender to a TCP/IP game that doesn't start for some days, _then_ it gets started and they can't remember the password. Too late to create another pretender at that...

Re: \"Old Age\" system in Dom3 - need some info

Except that for one thing, Boots of Youth aren't available until Const-6 : an awful lot of mages can have gotten diseased, feebleminded, mute, and dead before then, and having to refrain from...
