Re: Lightless lantern and horror marks

I kind of like it the way it is. I think they're worthwhile to use, but as others have said, it's best to use them only on researchers that are expendable.

Mercenary Recruitment Question:

What happens if you have bid sufficient to win the recruitment auction, but during the turn you lost the province which you chose for location?

Re: Where to find a game?

This is the right place to come, but it's not a huge community, so you won't find games starting every day (I guess I've seen roughly one new game per week advertised here). I guess the games...

Questions on Earth, Water Blessings

I'm playing around with an E9, W9 bless w/ EA Tien Chi. I'm a little bit confused in a couple of respects:

1) The E9 +4 protection bonus doesn't seem to show up on the CMs. It does show up on...

Re: Random set up, PBEM game for new players

Lankans == hobbits

Now that's a hoot!

Re: Random set up, PBEM game for new players

He's talking about your domain going positive, which will show up as red candle on Lanka's map. This is certainly possible by turn 5. (and actually it's a black candle w/ a red tip)

For your...

Re: Random set up, PBEM game for new players

Well, it depends entirely on how many players are on the given land mass. I think Nix has the right of it - it can be surprisingly easy to track down another player, with just a bit of luck.

Re: Faerun MA PBEM (mail pretenders)

I don't have any experience in editing maps, but just from looking at the file, it seems that the only functionality you have within the map is prohibiting (or not) a specific province from being a...

Re: Faerun MA PBEM (mail pretenders)

Hey everyone,

I was just considering hosting a new PBEM on Hadrian's altered Faerun map. His changes look sensible, and I've played a number of turns SP, and it still looks good, but before I...

Re: Random set up, PBEM game for new players

Sorry to hear about the tough start - good luck toughing it out. To look for a silver lining, it may not be a disadvantage to have missed the mercs. I think there is a price level where players can...

Resolution of Movement Different in Dom3?

I've been playing Tien Chi in SP, and I've had more difficulties with having single celestial masters going into combat alone than I recall under Dom2.

Specifically, I have one case (but many like...

Re: Random set up, PBEM game for new players

Maybe this goes w/o saying, but it would also be cool if CJ could run turns early, if everyone has got their turns in (I think he was about to do that this morning, but i was the laggard this time...

Re: Random set up, PBEM game for new players

From CJ's email:

I'm in favor of any kind of deadline policy. More specifically, I'm thinking that simply running the turns at the same time every evening might be easier than 28hrs, but I'm...

Re: Random set up, PBEM game for new players

Well, that certainly is generous of you. If I were hosting I'd be inclined to be a bit more "draconian", but whatever works.

Re: Random set up, PBEM game for new players

Well its good to be nice, but hosting a game is already extra work, add to that nursemaiding 14 players, that would quickly become painful, I guess.

Re: Random set up, PBEM game for new players

Got my turn file, but I think I need 2 files for the random map, correct?

I get an error msg, asking for "west_east_1.rgb", but according to the manual I will also need a .map file, as well...

Re: How to enable auto-save.

Forgive the unix ignorant question (I've used unix as well as cygwin a few years back, but I'm more than a little rusty), but I installed cygwin, added "--postexec domsave.bat" to the Dom3 shortcut...

Re: Old Age & EA Tien Chi?

That's good to hear - I'll give it a try, then.

Actually, playing a little bit more in SP, I am seeing that the suggestions posted do work, and the old age thing can be worked around, even w/o...

Re: Old Age & EA Tien Chi?

Well, this is all great info, thanks a bunch!

However, I suspect that this is too strong an effect on TC, EA. Two of the suggestions involve blood magic, and that's very difficult for TC to...

Old Age & EA Tien Chi?

Just picked up Dom 3 (looks nice!), I've played just a bit sp w/ Tien Chi (one of my old favorites under Dom 2). I haven't played this enough to say this conclusively, but it seems like Early Age TC...

Re: Dominions 2 Demo Download Broken?

OK, I've found the demo on 3DGamers.com, still would probably be good to fix the link on the shrapnel page.

Dominions 2 Demo Download Broken?

I've tried downloading off the shrapnel dominions 2 download page many times, after several reboots, and both via IE 6 and NS 7, either way I always get a file with filesize 0. Perhaps this download...
