If you've got the research, you could also try Manifestation. Will Ashen Angels attack stealthy commanders? If so, they're pretty formidable....

Don't forget zero-encumbrance units. One of the "quirks" of Dom3 is that units with ZERO encumbrance will never gain fatigue from combat. Casting spells will still cause fatigue, but they can fight...
