Re: Oh how I hate the Aleutians

So I decided to look into this a bit. I'm playing the the first battle of the US long campaign, Aleutian Islands, and it ain't been too bad so far. I may be getting lucky though; they're sending...

Shotguns

Sorry if this has been brought up before; it seems like the kind of thing that would be, but a quick search of the forum found nothing.

Does it seem to anyone else that shotguns are...

Re: River Crossing

I've done this on uber-swampy/flooded-out maps. Or for amphibious invasions where I'm simulating a very under-equipped attacker (think Gallipoli, with generally similar results).

Re: Question to the community regarding the sportsmanship and z-fire

Yes It's cheating and I tend to not do it to the AI since they can't retaliate in kind (human beings are fair game). I've felt this way since even before z-fire was so effective. It's especially...

Re: New scenarios "Red Dawn Series"

You should take a page from Shattered Union and have a bunch of partisans riding around in armour-plated low-rider pickups. I'd look forward to something set in Northern California; fighting over...

Re: Best MBT of the world 2005 (According to SPMBT

For future reference, absolutely everything I say is sarcasm unless indicated otherwise.

From my understanding, one big disadvantage of the Abrams is that its exhaust system belches so much heat...

Dutch Terror

I always liked this scenario. It's campaign 007 and I'm going to assume that everyone knows about the general backstory with Al Qaeda elements holding a town in the Netherlands hostage, claiming to...

Re: Fighting USA as the Red Army

That's very noble, but perhaps one of the reasons you're having so much trouble is because you're operating a WP force with a NATO mindset? The Reds were more than willing to see an infantry...

Re: creating a new, fictional oob

Yes. I know that points usually represent effectiveness rather than actual cost, and I also know why the developers chose to do that (because if gamers tried playing the Iraqis or North Koreans and...

Re: creating a new, fictional oob

Wonder what became of Zocktan; he seemed to have a better grasp of what he was doing than I.

I'm trying to create Posleen o'olts as well. I don't think superheavy weapons like the SheVas or...

Re: Close Assaults

I've managed to knock out Abrams tanks with swarms of Palestinian protestors. :D

If your squad fails an assault but still has firing opportunities left, shoot at the tank. Grenades immobilize once...

Re: Danish TO & E

Wow, thanks for this thread, Palle. Denmark does indeed have an impressive and under-appreciated military.

Some of the information is irrelevant to the game itself, but I'm currently writing a...

Re: When it gets past 2020...

MMXX. However, I agree with one of the guy's in another thread who said al orbats should end on XXI/XII/MMXII

As far as the shrinking fan base, I plan on teaching my neices and nephews how to...

Re: Question Re Red, Blue and Green OOBs

Which is pretty much what they were intended for in the first place (roll your own nations) - the default units being merely "fillers" intended for replacement.[/QUOTE]
I have a four-man cavalry...

Re: Question Re Red, Blue and Green OOBs

I use them to portray fictional countries or sub-national groups (mercenaries, bandits, rebel groups, cults) in various fantasy/alternate history scenarios that I and some of my friends create to...

Re: Close Assaults

Well I was going to make a reference to freight-hopping, but Imp already did that.

I'll just say that if the tank movement is abstracted, then so too is the infantry movement. For all we know, the...

Re: Modeling Polish 10th Motorized Brigade

There's a 6-man (I think) bicycle cavalry squad for the Polish OOB. I actually used it for the infantry in a motorized brigade during a Let's Play on another forum. The way I had my brigade set up,...

Re: Questions about soviet artillery and other in game

I suggest removing ALL heavy/hi-tech formations from future OOBs and leaving only Somali/Mujahideen-style rebel and militia units.

Tell everyone that organized military forces won't survive The...

Never actually used them in any game, but I can't think of anything else they'd be good for.

Re: Cavalry

Or mounted infanry/dismountable cavalry. These also make good ambush/scouting forces. Hide the riflemen in the treelines and keep their horses close by for quick getaways.

Horses can go places...

Re: Has a fire hex ever killed anything?

WWII wasn't really fought in North America

It was mostly in the Soviet Union and other damp and rainy parts of Europe. And North Africa, well...they had plenty of sand to throw on the fires ;) ...

Re: World in Conflict/Red Dawn themed Scenarios

I once played wargames and wrote stories on another forum where the USA and virtually every other first-world country in the world fell apart after. Sort of like like a mix between Twilight 2000 and...

Re: Dismountable Cavalry?

Actually that's perfectly logical - someone has to keep the horses ;) It's the same situation as with Motorcycle units.
(For example during and after the American Civil War, the cavalry usually...
