Re: Spiralus PBW discussion thread.

Rearguard news, the Irha-Nrr view:

"Since the destruction of our entire military and of the shipyards and research worlds in Tesshana, the Dragons have withdrawn from our space. They are...

Re: Symbiosis

Neat. I'd been working on a race something like that myself for use in PBW, but hadn't had the guts to try it yet; I cranked their resource production way up and virtually crippled all their combat...

Re: Spiralus PBW discussion thread.

Perhaps one day we _can_ see the battle for ourselves. I save all the turns that get emailed to me until after the game ends, so we could swap passwords afterward and view key points in each others'...

Re: SEIV is being Pirated

For more detailed information on copyright as it currently exists, see the FAQ at the following address: http://web.mit.edu/cwis/copyright/faq.html

It looks pretty good to me. However, since the...

Re: SEIV is being Pirated

Well I, for one, am extremely annoyed by the vast majority of the so-called "copy-protection" schemes I've seen used on software. I don't pirate (well, with a handful of exceptions over the years ...

Re: SEIV is being Pirated

One moderating factor to keep in mind is that not every warezed copy of SEIV is a "lost sale" for Shrapnel/Malfador; the vast majority of the people who download these things still wouldn't buy a...

Re: Surviving a missing turn in PBEM or PBW game.

Perhaps you should allow the AI to start building or researching things under certain circumstances anyway? For example, if you've got no more research items in the queue, the AI might as well spend...

Re: How do you do that, Dragonlord?

I love Hogan. Ever read NASA Conference Publication 2255 (Advanced Automation for Space Missions) http://www.islandone.org/MMSG/aasm/ ? It's what gave Hogan the idea for Code of the Lifemaker, and I...

Re: How do you do that, Dragonlord?

Winged creatures, no. Wings need some sort of medium (gas or liquid) to push against. However, you could equip your species with biological "rockets" instead. For a RL example, look up Bombadier...

Re: Spiralus PBW discussion thread.

Heh. Unfortunately, the Irha-Nrr try not to play the "blame game," especially not with individual members of a species. They simply try to ensure that violent species never have access to dangerous...

Easy; they just _look_ like insects. They're actually delicate, beautiful creatures with liquid ammonia blood and exoskeletons made of transparent crystalline water-ice that scintilates in their...

Re: How do you do that, Dragonlord?

Hrmph. I chose rock/none and advanced storage for very good roleplaying reasons; my race were a race of self-replicating industrial robots that had originally created to do space exploration and...

Re: How do you do that, Dragonlord?

You don't necessarily need to know the planet types of players in order to give them fair starting positions. When you define a planet as a player's starting position in the map editor, the planet...

If so, the human player isn't _me_. I still barely have any contact at all with the outside world at this point, let alone influence.

The Irha-Nrr are descending as far into raving paranoia as they are capable of. Our only neighbours are the Yvelom and the Dragons, the two biggest empires in the game, and the Rage Collective, an...

Re: OT - favorite science fiction-another touchy feelie

Hmm... That mention of Fire Upon the Deep makes me think, wouldn't it be neat to be able to implement Vingean "Zones" in an SEIV map? For those that haven't read the book, in that universe there is...

Re: Spiralus PBW discussion thread.

Last I checked I was in _10th_ score-wise. I think that part of the blame lies in how I was trying to save the atmosphered planets for other species to colonize, despite only have two systems with...

We have just encountered an independant machine ecology that goes by that designation.

We have broadcast Irha-Nrr system recognition handshake codes and are awaiting a response code to determine...
