Re: When FOO is spotting is there a higher hit rate?

B0 experience is 61, S2 is 64. There are 3 firers, 1 on-map and 2 off-map. I tried calling fire with B0 and S2 for each of the 3 firers. The on-map firer times are B0 2.4, S2 3.0; the off-map...

Re: When FOO is spotting is there a higher hit rate?

I'm playing a scenario with 2 FOOs, B0 and S2. B0 has an artillery command factor of 58, S2's is 65. When B0 calls in fire on a new target there's a delay of 3.0, S2 calls in with a delay of 3.3. ...

Re: Terrain For Moving Units

Good info, thanks.

Where this usually comes up is when units are advancing through what looks like empty terrain in the sense of no visible enemy units. Then they're spotted and fired upon by...

Re: Terrain For Moving Units

Since moving makes a unit more vulnerable but terrain with cover protects the unit, is a unit generally better off staying where it is or moving toward better terrain? That is, is the movement...

Question Terrain For Moving Units

When does a moving unit get the benefit of the terrain it enters when it's fired upon? And does that apply to retreating/routing units as well?

Re: Sighting

Very good info, thanks.

One final question (I promise): In these 'down-the-spine' sighting situations, does it always select the blocking hex, regardless of whether the block is due to height or a...

Re: Sighting

See attached. Why is hex 40,45 not visible to Polish unit L2?

Multiple Hits

It's my impression that with v5.0 there are more multiple hits against infantry. Since I didn't keep stats on previous versions I can't say for sure.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Is there a...

Re: Sighting

There's a number of things about trees which don't make sense to me.

First is the pinhole effect. If you make a hole in a sheet of paper with a pin and hold it up to your eye you can see a lot...

Sighting

In the attachment the field of vision for Polish unit O5, an HMG platoon, looks strange. There are two hexes (30,35 and 31,30) which are not visible even though they are exactly the same as...

Re: Movement With Suppression

I've researched this some more. For those who are interested, the morale breakpoints are 85, 75, 65, 55. The higher the morale the more suppression is required to pin or retreat. I presume it...

Infantry vs Artillery

For the first time I had infantry engage artillery units. As a result there were a number of remarkable incidents.

The artillery were in a series of clearings surrounded by woods. They...

Re: Sighting Issue

Don,

Thanks for your explanation, but I'm a bit confused. When I mouse over a hex the top text specifies the height, which you state is approx. .5 meter. OK, but what is a hill level? I've...

Thanks Don and Andy. Lots of good information there and explains other odd events that happen periodically. But I still find it strange that units can spend a whole turn firing at each other...

Question Sighting Issue

See attached.

Tank in hex 79,48 and 75mm gun in 84,48 cannot see each other when the turn was saved. Which makes sense since both units are at height 0 but there are three intervening hexes at...

Re: Movement With Suppression

Andy,

After your response I did a close look and here is what I found. For suppression values 6-8, the lower the suppression values the more unit units move - makes sense. For suppression 10...

Question Movement With Suppression

I find some units with suppression of 6 - 10 can move while others can't. Is this purely random or is there some determining factor?

Re: Tank Hits

Unless you view the turret as being at the forward edge of the tank, the hull will potentially block hitting the turret from a lower elevation. If the distance from the front of the turret to the...

Ah, I just checked and the tank is dug in. Too bad there isn't some visual way to show that, like the foxholes for infantry.

I didn't understand the second comment. It seems if the target is...

Question Tank Hits

See the attached save.

AT rifle units L0, L1 and L2 got 15 hits between them on the tank in hex 59, 40. Every one of the hits was a turret hit, either front or side. It seems like at least...

Question A Couple of Questions

1. Is there any limit to how far a unit will retreat in one turn? I had an infantry unit retreat 14 hexes in one turn. This includes 2 3-hex 'dances' so the total distance covered was 8 hexes. The...

In the preceding turn the unit didn't do anything unusual and to the best of my recollection nobody even shot at it. As you can see in the save there aren't many enemy units left.

The status as...

Re: Rallying

Just curious, why doesn't the manual rally work the same way? If successful, it halves the suppression.
