Re: Heat or AP?

It seems to me that HEAT rounds have much more variation in their penetration. AP rounds tend to hit for roughly the same amount of penetration.

On the flip side, AP rounds can drop off a lot over...

German and American squad snipers

Another infantry question.

Late war German infantry companies were issued a number of scoped rifles. Its likely that some of these would have been used as marksmen within the squad, rather than...

Volksgrenadier question

I was setting up a random battle for 1945 and was looking through the Volksgrenadier units available. I have a couple of questions / suggestions:

1:
The unit seems to be based on the "sturm zug"...

Any SP players also do tabletop wargames?

I apologize if this is somewhat off topic, though I hope not.
If a mod decides to move or delete the thread, I'll understand though.

Steel Panthers always felt like a hardcore tabletop wargame to...

Re: Which is the better choice?

I havent tested this extensively or anything, but my gut reaction is kill is more important than a small increase in accuracy. Just seems to play out that way.

I guess I like to move my MG's up...

Re: US and Brit 1930 equipment too early

yeah, I figured 1930 isn't a huge priority. Thank you though :)
If you guys want, I don't mind checking some more of these 1930's things.

Good point on the dates. I was just looking at what...

US and Brit 1930 equipment too early

Im not sure if the pre-WW2 stuff is a huge priority, but figured this might be worth mentioning:

The american M2 60mm mortar will show up from 1930 onwards, but to my knowledge, this wasn't...

Re: Close Assaults

yeah, when hte battles get too big, it gets unwieldy. I thought the original game hit it the best. The engine breaks down when you are trying to maneuver 15 different teams or vehicles

Re: Close Assaults

I rather liked the Close Combat games, but I didn't play all of them I must admit.

THey have their quirks though :)

Re: Germans. Experience with using infantry guns?

The way this sort of stuff usually goes for me, by the time they'd have run out of ammo either the rest of the army has shown up and its all good, or they've been overrun and its all irrelevant :)

Help creating a scenario

So I am trying to create a few fun little scenarios for a friend of mine to cut his teeth on.
My question is.. is there a way to make an AI unit stay in one place until it spots the enemy?

Cheers

Re: German LeIG 18 range too high?

awesome :)

Out of curiosity, is the HEAT charge lighter?
Or are there some other reason I am missing why it'd have a longer range with HEAT?

Re: Germans. Experience with using infantry guns?

Yeah, might be a useful counter battery option.

Interesting on the FjG gun. I don't have any para's but once I get to fight in the west, I'll probably buy a company or so in support for a battle,...

Been away from the game for a while. Currently playing a long war campaign as Germany.

Random thoughts and observations:

Trying a wider variety of weapons than I usually do. This is actually...

German LeIG 18 range too high?

Just noticed this morning, I can try and hunt down a unit number once I get home from work.

The LeIG 18 is given a range of 5600 meters, which seems kind of high.

The only book I have on hand...

Re: Germans. Experience with using infantry guns?

I am bad at forgetting to buy support, hence why I have things in my core force (tanks, arty) that don't belong there proper :)

Re: Close Assaults

Thats even assuming the tank is moving perpetually. The game gives the current speed based on hexes moved, but if the tank fired during its turn, odds are in real life, it stopped to fire, then...

Re: Germans. Experience with using infantry guns?

yeah, thats true.

So far against the Poles, they've served as direct fire support, since there's no planes to shoot at, but later on, the dastard allies will swarm the skies.

Re: Germans. Experience with using infantry guns?

good advice thanks :)

The whole force I got at the moment looks like this:

Command portion:
Forward observer
4 20mm FLAK (plus trucks)
6 37mm AT guns (plus trucks)
a battery of off map 75mm...

Germans. Experience with using infantry guns?

For my current campaign, the core of my force is build around two companies of infantry. I swapped the rather useless 50mm mortars for a pair of 82mm's for each company, but I am pondering...
