The thing with the PPB's and range is that in order to fire you must get within their range, 6 I think, so all direct fire weapons will have a chance to hit. This is where the other modifiers come...

One thing to remember about range is you must have sensors/experiance for it to be an advantage. At range 10 any standard weapon has 0% to hit if no other modifiers come into play. Also as pointed...

dogscoff's way is a great way to get into it fast. For a real slugfest do small map high tech 10 homeworlds and 5-8 players. You will most likely be at war in less than 10 turns.

Without you being able to capture ships with destroyed MCs the Physic AI races would be at a severe disadvantage. I have yet to see a standard race use boarding or MC's. If it didn't work this way...

I use it when I am building facilities that take more than one turn on a planet that only holds 1-5 facilities. Usually these planets do't build much later so the slower production time does't matter...

Build your Bsy using a Base not a Ship. In the beginning you can only build one with a yard component and very little else. After you research larger bases you can add weapons and defenses.
