Re: New Nation Suggestion

Given the prominent role the Deer also plays in Turkish mythology it might also make a good summonable as some kind of cavalry (or possibly a national teleport spell, IIRC the Deer was often given...

Re: Questions about PD and other

Sounds like the coding for it is messy

Mind you, something like fieldworks could probably be fudged into the battlefield generation rather than the PD itself (simply check the PD and if...

Re: Questions about PD and other

Not much use if your a resource heavy nation and happen to have a lack of resources though, plus you end up with troops sat away from the frontline doing nothing but taking upkeep if nobody attacks....

Re: Questions about PD and other

Depends on the nation and their PD troops, and also whether the AI has decided to be sensible or not. A good PD force (Abyssia for example) can be lethal, especially if backed up with a mage or two....

Re: Questions about PD and other

It's not always a bad idea though, PD has it's own advantages that a normal army doesn't. For example, it's unaffected by sites which spread disease, thus if you're unlucky enough to find Inkwell End...

Re: RE: \"Upgrade\" options between Dominion series.

No, I was refering to the fact that around 60% of their output are generic template games with different graphics. Although if you want to put comparisons on series up, spot the difference between...

Re: RE: \"Upgrade\" options between Dominion series.

You're in a minority there, if EA's business is anything to go by http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

The thing is, you pay for the game not the code. One could ask why you...

Re: The Illogic of Flight

You know, when you think about that, it makes no sense. Surely it would be somewhat easy to spot a trampler - it's the big guy running straight at you...

Re: The Illogic of Flight

At the basic level though, if the flyer is close enough for a melee attack, it's close enough to be attacked back. Who's to say the flier didn't collide with the trampler (imagine the effect of a...

Re: Arcane Nexus

Yah, but on the other hand I don't see any sinlge players complaining about the spell in the first place. It's not like the AI regularly boosts it's globals, when it actually bothers to cast them....

Re: The Illogic of Flight

Flying archers would certainly be illogical (how would they aim the bow and stay airborne at the same time?). As for flying mages, perhaps the effort to stay airborne affects their concentration for...

Re: Arcane Nexus

Bit of both

The problem is what you're offering to the player. Dispelling AN at that point means little to those who are basically trying to hang on. Offering them provinces on the other...

Re: Arcane Nexus

Sounds like you have a problem with the players rather than the spell.

Why bother with the dispel then? Presumably, if those nations interested really do have a chance at winning then it would...

Re: Summoning vs Forging

You don't have to make them into a thug. Great returns can be had by (for example) summoning one of the stealthy types with some nasty side effect (causes disease), then giving them an item to...

Re: OT: Politics

The way hollywood's going these days, paying those same cows or racoons to write the scripts would produce marginally better results http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Re: OT: Politics

Oh, I doubt Tolkien has anything to do with it. Over here he is probably the epitome of Right Wing. Much as he may have denied it, there are several political themes in his work (such as the scouring...

Re: Not sure how to fix this (bug or otherwise)

To me that sounds like something is altering the key file either during or after it's creation. Wonder if over-aggressive anti virus or similar could be to blame...

Re: 2 Things this game desperately needs

To look at it another way, if you tell soldiers who've been on campaign for several months, saw many friends killed, spent the time they haven't been fighting scrounging around simply for food and...

Re: Vampire Queen + Underrated Pretenders?

Depends on the other players I guess http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I've never saw the titan pretender types used much (Lady of Rivers, Lady of Fortune and the like).

Re: The biggest problem with Dom III

There's plenty of ways to give yourself a challenge without actually needing to alter the Era system. Try imposing some rules on your own pretender build or similar (no bless, no SC and the like)....

Re: unique pretender design thread

Depends on your strategy and the God in question really. I mean, LA Ermor is pretty much forced to take death, and I wouldn't consider them non-competetive.
In certain other magic types it also...

Re: Are heavy bless strategies the best ones ?

Sometimes they aren't artificial limitations. The danger with falling into the "best strategy & counter" line of thought is that someone cropping up with a completely wild strategy, even if not...
