I guess the best way to look at it is the movement points don't make sense but it works. But since this is space isn't using 2D movement weird to begin with?

The filler techs add a lot to the game. The AI definately researches better with them.
I don't think the AI will lose many research points unless you modify the total amount of research the race...

There is a mod that increases weapons platform range, Dev mod includes it. You should try that, PPB with range 12, APB with range 15. Tough to get close to a planet with this mod. Also, in the empire...

Found out about the repair time the hard way. I had 65 of them on a ship that survived a tough fight. Took a long time to repair that ship!

I use armor. I use the stealth and scattering for the defensive to hit benefits. I also load up on it if I don't have phased shields and my enemy is using PPB's. Also, there are no armor depleting...
