Choose Indie When It Comes To The War In Afghanistan!
Make The Right Choice And Save On All ProSIM Titles!

Cary, NC, 12 October 2010

Here at Shrapnel Games we can't afford a multi-million dollar marketing blitz, complete with primetime advertising like one of those big publishers. After all, we're not some megacorporation, but rather just a dedicated group of passionate gamers who have since 1999 brought the very best of independent strategy gaming to gamers around the world.

Today, one of those big publishers is releasing a game depicting the current ongoing struggle in Afghanistan. At least we think that's what it's about, since it appears the enemy isn't even the real enemy anymore. Maybe you're fighting against Teletubbies now?

You may not be aware but you do have a choice. There are other options. Such as ProSIM's Air Assault Task Force, a serious examination on Operation Anaconda, available from Shrapnel Games.

Air Assault Task Force is a survey simulation of ground warfare focusing on airmobile operations throughout history, specifically on some of the most defining moments of air cav history: Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam, Mogadishu in Somalia, and of course the Shahi-Kot Valley in Afghanistan during Operation Anaconda.

Air Assault Task Force is not a twitchy shooter, but an intelligent real-time (or as ProSIM calls it, command-time) strategy game. Actually, calling it a game is a misnomer, as it truly represents a simulation. Units and weapons behave as they do in real life; such as, ordering a unit doesn't make it magically skate along the ground but instead take as much time to get underway as it would in reality. The terrain is built from digital elevation models, which means you could go to Afghanistan and find your way around the region just by using your Air Assault Task Force game. (Disclaimer: Shrapnel Games does not endorse sightseeing in war regions. Kids, check with your parents before heading over.)

Air Assault Task Force is not a game for everyone, but if you're looking for a realistic examination of the current conflict and like to be challenged in your games, this is the game for you.

In fact, here, let's break down whether Air Assault Task Force is what you're looking for or whether you'd be better off with that other game.

With Air Assault Task Force you get:
  • A unique real-time strategy title of the war in Afghanistan, along with other theaters of conflict, developed by folks who really do know their modern warfare. After all, they also develop real world training tools for the military whose roots trail back to their commercial game engines.
  • Realism rarely seen in the RTS world, making Air Assault Task Force shine amongst a sea of typical RTS titles. An intelligent game for discerning gamers.
  • Inclusion of al-Qaeda and Taliban since it's meant to be an accurate wargame.
  • Full multi-player options, along with scenario creation tools.
  • Sweet indie goodness. DRM-free operation. Extensive manual clocking in at 129 pages. Quick and friendly customer support. Ability to easily communicate with the developer.

With that other title you get:
  • Generic, easily forgettable gameplay you've seen a dozen times before. Oh, and don't forget more shades of brown than nature intended.
  • Teabagging and other misanthropic and probably misogynistic behavior.
  • The Big Publisher effect.

You know you want Air Assault Task Force. Read more about the game, its extensive features, system requirements, and download a demo by pointing your browser to here:

To help cement your choice Air Assault Task Force is on sale all month long for only $38.95! Furthermore, from now until October 19th, ALL ProSIM titles are on sale!

That's right, once you've experienced the greatness of Air Assault Task Force come back by and pick up any of ProSIM's other great modern warfare titles such as The Star and the Crescent, Raging Tiger: The Second Korean War, The Falklands War: 1982, and more.

Want to know something cool? ProSIM titles are backwards compatible with each other. This means that if you own Air Assault Task Force, representing the latest engine issue, installing an older game such as The Falklands War: 1982 will allow that game to be updated to take advantage of the Air Assault Task Force engine. How's that for customer friendliness?

Hurry, the sale only lasts until October 19th. Be sure to visit www.shrapnelgames.com to read up on all the ProSIM titles or simply visit our e-store, the Gamers Front. There you'll be able to easily pull up all ProSIM titles for your shopping pleasure, just pull up 'wargames' under games by genre.

Look for Bronze, an fast paced strategy game set in the Ancient World, and Malfador's Machinations latest conquer the world game, World Supremacy, both coming soon from Shrapnel Games. In 2011 expect the next great sci-fi 4X title, Star Legacy, and in the meantime don't forget to check out the current classics such as Dominions 3: The Awakening, Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, War Plan Pacific, and more.
