Default Advice needed on Classic SE IV

Can someone tell me in easy-to-understand English what the difference between Classic SE IV and Gold is? And why I should pay another 40$ for SE IV GOLD when I own the origial? Is there any way to patch Classic to Gold? Or is that shadey?

Thanks for the help in advance, been a couple years since I broke out SE IV. SE V is a definite must-have if its as good as SE IV.

Yes we await SE5 - but it could be 1 year - 2 years though.

Well, there are several really cool mods that are only possible in SE4 Gold. Think of all the different games you get rolled into one by purchasing Gold.

If not that... there have been many bug fixes and feature improvement in the Gold Versions. Skim through the Version history posted on the download pages to see what has been added.

Stuff in Good, not in classic:
- Better AI
- More modding options
- Drones
- +++ bug fixes
- Mouse wheel support
- Simultaneous game saves
- All major mods are for Gold
- Most players use Gold on PBW
- lots of little items that make the game interface better

That's just a few things off the top of my head.

If you think $40 for a game that you'll end up playing for a year or two until SE:V comes up is a good investment, then yes it might be a good idea to get Gold.

Gotta admit that they have done a good job so far with SE4 in terms of updates etc.

You know that gold might be worth the upgrade as SE5 is going to be taking its time in development to be a quality product in a few years time

No, you can't patch Classic to Gold. If you want reasons to upgrade, I can just post the latest History.txt, but I might run afoul of post length limits!

Seriously though, what do you get?
-Lots of little interface enhancements that you soon won't be able to live without (build queue multi-add, mousewheel support,
-Fewer bugs!
-More possibilities for modding and what kinds of mods you can play (see all the excitement over the Research and Intel generating components? )
-Less chance for Malfador to go out of business and not make SE5!

I'm sure others can come up with more answers, as there have been a LOT of these threads around ever since SE4 Gold was released, and I must say as time goes on my investment in the game has only become more valuable as more patches, mods, etc. are added to the Gold Version that those without it are missing out on! (though there shouldn't be any more patches, but hey, they've got to stop some time )

edit: wow, 5 people replied while I typed that! well OK I also got distracted and had to help my brother with his math homework...

edit: well, 3 of them were the same person...

Well the thing is that during those 2 years that MM is going to have reduced cashflow. So either a quick development project line (they have starfury so that will help) i guess if they went with the dual role ie say 4 monthly upgrades of SE4 until SE5 is out - but charge $5 each major upgrade so they get ongoing cashflow - and this might help speed up the SE5 development project. Dunno just throwing around business ideas that might get read.

That would greatly, greatly slow down the development of SEV, as it would take away from time that would be better spent on working on SEV.

Also, MM has stated that there will NEVER be any more pay for upgrades for SE4 after Gold. Not a "Platinum", not 5 dollars a patch, nothing. Repeatedly posting about it is not going to change anything.
