Light Infantry commander? Bug?
I'm playing as Caelum in an ongoing PbEM game. We recently had to redo a turn due to a mix up. After going in to re-issue my orders, I notice an extra commander at my home province. I check his stats, and can clearly see that it's a Caelian Light Infantry, waiting for orders. It's still early in the game, and there's no chance I GoR'd it and simply forgot. Has anyone else had anything like this happen? A normally weak trooper suddenly gaining the backbone to say, "Okay troops, follow me!" Sounds buggy...

Were you using some sort of mod?

Re: Light Infantry commander? Bug?
The only mod active was the Sacred Salamanders mod. Besides, if it was a mod, everyone would have had to be using it, correct?

Yes, exactly the same thing (except it was a falchioneer) in the same game. I think the mixup has corrupted the game.

Re: Light Infantry commander? Bug?
I think this is the "reincarnation" feature.
I had a Mictlan slave spring into being with a custom name and magic paths...both of which corresponded with a recently deceased Tien Chi hero.
So what you're seeing is probably a Light Infantry that's a reincarnation of some other recently deceased individual. If he came into being with magic paths, then in his Last life, he was some sort of mage. If you saw nothing interesting about him, then he was probably a regular commander in his Last life.

Re: Light Infantry commander? Bug?
Reincarnation feature, if it is a feature, is rather nifty... Especially when it is seen on Devils/ Undead! I had it happen with a devil (Orokestes! 1AEWF+3SH for Pangaea, SP in D1:PPP , so undead would be possible too. And with Orokestes, it was really thematic.

Re: Light Infantry commander? Bug?
Can anyone tell me what this means? I mean in terms of consequences.
Does that mean the game is "corrupted", or whatever word you want to use for SULP ("screwed up and no longer playable")? Or can we just shrug our shoulders and go on from here?
Is this "reincarnation feature" about which you speak, Norfleet, a "feature" in the sense of: a bug which could occur anytime in any game?
thanks much

Re: Light Infantry commander? Bug?
The reincarnation bug is indeed strange and rather fun. It is always an immortal or someone with an enchantment like twiceborn cast upon them. It might be connected with the inexplicable deaths of immortals. We havn't found the cause of the bug yet.

Re: Light Infantry commander? Bug?
Besides immortality and Ritual of Rebirth, it seems that Ritual of Returning works too. Orokestes was in the home citadel of Arcos when I attacked and got him, I don't think he died. Arcos died on the same turn. I got that devil to my home province of Pangaea.
I have the save file (of the turn it has happened) in case you need it, but it's Dom:PPP.
BTW, I almost made a really bad typo in this post. "Besides imorality and Ritual of... "
EDIT: Oops, "rituals like Ritual of Rebirth"... not RoR alone.

Re: Light Infantry commander? Bug?
Yeah, i've seen that bug with a Devil before but i just figured that after you had aquired all the unique heroes of a nation it will randomly create a commander every now and then or something. But the devil i got was more magically powerful than any other hero i had aside from my pretender so i dont know who could have died to reincarnate him. I did lose a hero that was pretty high in the hall of fame a few turns before that...
