Hey Folks !
Good news for all who love DOMINIONS 2 ! THE-BATTLEFIELD.com a site that provides rankings and tourneys for strategy games decided to support Dominions ! Membership and Accounts are totally free.
Currently we are working an the site for DOM2.
To make it possible to calculate the game results i need your help now guys.
PLEASE add a reply and help us !
Here are the questions :
1) What are the settings you mostly play with ?
2) Which settings (create new game) are needed to calculate a result in your eyes ( Nations, AI Difficulty, Mapsize... )
Hope to get many replies so that we can soon start working on the report. With your help the rankings could go Online in some weeks !

Ah! Sounds like good news. Don't know about typical settings for multi-player games in small, mid-range, or large maps. I did notice a tendancy in some of the game start Posts towards independant strength of 6. That could be an erroneous observation though. Good luck to you!

I don't know about everyone else, but the large majority games seem to run with an independent strength of about 6, and a magic site frequency of about 50. This seems to be more or less standard and few objectors exist. Everything else is somewhat variable. Map size is strongly dependent on the number of players.

AIs are practically never used in a multiplayer game, unless somebody gets botted. Nations, mapsize, all are highly variable, often chosen by user preference and cannot in any way determine "difficulty": Difficulty is more often decided by the players you will be facing, with randomness in starting position having a greater effect with lower mean seperation distance, with seperation distance being directly proportional to the square root of the map size and the square of the number of players. A lower seperation distance tends to increase the effects of randomness in starting positions and generally results in early knockouts with players that start off in weaker positions.

Indies at 5-6, everything else default except "renaming allowed", victory by VPs or 60-70% of provinces.

Re: DOMINIONS 2 will be supported by www.the-battlefield.com
I find provinces to be more reflective, particularly at the 60-70% mark. VPs paint an annoying bullseye on your capitol visible from the beginning of the game, lessening the value of scouting, and tend to weaken the game by making it only as strong as the weakest link: If you only need 2 capitols out of the 5 or so players in the game, all you have to do is bury an unsuspecting newbie. Hardly even a real fight, since odds are his capitol won't be defended while his army is out in the field. Of course, in a REAL game, you'd probably fail to hold onto it.

Re: DOMINIONS 2 will be supported by www.the-battlefield.com
AI difficulty is kind of irrelevant: There are no AIs in multiplayer, except players that go AI, or some bizarre game where somebody would want AIs in the game...but why?
