How did my pretender die?
I had a pretender, a snake like hydra thing that I thought was nearly invincible, attacked by Bogus the Troll (who has a wraith sword). Everyone had routed but me and Bogus. Somehow, my fatigue went up to 195 and I couldn't do anything and it didn't appear Bogus could harm me either. After awhile, my pretender just died and I have no idea how

Re: How did my pretender die?
A Wraith Sword causes you to get fatigued when it hits you. So that might have been where your fatigue was coming from. It is also possible that you were affected by, say, a chill or a heat aura, from some other equipment that Bogus was wearing or from a spell that was cast at some point.
In any event, once your fatigue goes over 100 you're unconscious. Meaning that you won't fight back and are much easier to hit. Your fatigue will recover faster when you're unconscious, but obviously something was counteracting that. Once your fatigue exceeds 200, you start taking damage and most likely die in short order.
I've never had the pleasure of meeting Bogus the Troll and his merry band, but I gather that he's as tough as they come. Your running into him was decidedly bad luck.

The Wraith Sword has life draining, which fatigues the target even if no damage is done.
Your pretender died because, IIRC, the game auto-kills everything left on the battlefield that isn't able to route after 40 rounds.

Re: How did my pretender die?
I thought that--after the battle turn limit was reached--it was the attackers that died if they couldn't retreat because they're unconscious.

Re: How did my pretender die?
The attacker dies after 40 rounds? That must be the reason I died then. I don't like that rule

The attacker is first forced to retreat. If all attacking forces can't retreat for several turns, then both sides are forced to retreat. If neither side can completely retreat, then around turn 50 every unit remaining is killed.
As an aside, you couldn't have won the battle anyways with Bogus hitting you with a wraith sword and your fatigue over 100.

Re: How did my pretender die?
Yes I've had this happen to me as well
Attacking units should not be auto-killed after X amount of turns.
Attacking units which cannot retreat should be auto-retreated to a connecting friendly province.
Hopefully fixed in a future patch
