Default Making peace with the AI

I'm a very, VERY new player to SE: IV Gold, and had a question for the veteran players here. I've searched the forum, but can't find anything about it, so maybe somebody here knows the answer to this.

I read the manual, have searched Online for a good bit, but can't seem how to make to peace with an AI empire. Personally, I don't really mind it, but I've got a huge computer race breathing down my neck, telling me to make peace with my enemy or else. I really, really don't want to find out what the 'or else' just might be. However, when I try talking to the enemy AI, the only option resembling a ceasefire is surrender, and danged if I'll do that to appease some guy named Phong.

Any tips on how I can do this? Thanks!

Sending a treaty proposal is equivalent to a ceasefire.

As for the ai,
The ai is nuts,
the ai is crazy,
the ai does things,
for reasons which are hazy.

Hi. I'm Narf and I'm weird.

If you are at war with an A.I. empire, it is hard to make peace with them. They usually don't agree to treaty proposals. They will get angrier each time you have a battle with them. If you don't battle them for a long time, their anger level slowly decreases naturally. But it's hard to not fight them if you're at war and they're attacking you. Giving them gifts decreases their anger, but they may not accept the gifts if they are too angry. So I have never been successful in making peace with an A.I. once war has broken out, though I hear that in theory it is possible.

As for the big empire that's making demands: The A.I. isn't very smart. If it makes a demand, it will be satisfied if you reply to it agreeing to the demand, even if you don't follow through. But I think most of consider that to be exploiting the A.I... Anyway, if you are not at war yet with that A.I. empire, try to keep it happy by agreeing with everything it wants, and not attacking any of their ships or planets, and maybe giving it gifts. You can exploit the A.I. by gifting it outdated and damaged ships you don't want, even it it's helplessly stranded in the middle of nowhere.

I think this has something to do with it.

Go to the Races Shipset Folder and Open the (Racename)_AI_Politics.txt and look for the line:

Turns Since Last War Before Friendly Treaty := (Number)

It is different for certain races but usually it's about 20. So in otherwords i think it means 20 turns without any hostile actions between your empire and theirs, i think. Or it might be ANY War One of the modders or Fyron will no doubt clear that up.

I've never been able to make peace with an Empire I'm at War with. Once or twice they send a treaty suggesting a Trade Alliance which ends hostilities but they've never accepted one from me.

My Advice here is simple. Massive Military Buildup, so if the Big empire does come angrily knocking on your door you'll have a chance. Maybe invest in some intelligence...Or if you're feeling lucky just go invade and take over the smaller empire your at war with, there, No more problem

I think Raging Deadstar is right about the actual mechanism for making peace with an AI. It is very difficult to make peace when you are at war with an AI, if not completely impossible. You might want to "force" the Phong to send you a truce though.

However, feel free to disregard the demand of your bigger neighbour; the AI cannot check if you comply with its demands, and will only be angered if you refuse the demand (you can accept it and do nothing, or even ignore the request, and it will be fine for the AI). In this case, disregarding the request might be better, as you cannot really make peace with another AI Empire.

This is Admiral Petrach, commanding officer of the GTD Aquitaine. Well done Deadstar! You will receive a hero's welcome back at the fleet for your extraordinary contribution to the Alliance war effort. Going above and beyond the call of duty, you took down every single Agricultural Colonies, despite the impressive array of non-existing defences that were in your way. Your achievements have been well note by the highest officers serving the Alliance today, and you are hereby awarded the Medal of Gallantry for your outstanding courage when fighting unarmed civilians and disabled warships.

Thanks to your amazing performance (did I mention you have flown an incredible mission), the enemy does not have access to vital supplies such as food, water or tea. All enemy crews have powered down their vessels and surrendered because of this shortage of resources, to save both their lives and the plot that was in a deadend. The forces you faced were indeed more dangerous than class A threats because of their unpararalelled firepower; since the enemy required them to use their Masticator Superdestroyers, they were equivalent to these juggernauts, and thus equally as dangerous. The fact that these targets of opportunity were full of innocent civilians is irrelevant; as explained above, the colonies were virtual juggernauts, and only crew members are allowed within warships. Therefore, the colonies were manned by a horde of soldiers (we did tell you the enemy has enrolled the whole nation in the army, didn't we?).

Its actually quite easy to make peace with the AI, as mentioned above. Kill them. That's all it takes! But if they're larger than you, that can prove to be a little difficult. So, if they're larger than you, there are three final options:

1. Surrender. Usually not considered conducive to winning the game, and furthering your race.
2. Make alliances with other empires, build up as much as you can, then go on the offensive. When and if that fails, wait for your empire to be totally obliterated.
3. Unleash your ultra powerful secret weapon that no AI race has access to. Its called the......"New Game" button! No AI can match its unparalled power. What it does, it obliterates all your enemies to such an extent that its as if they never existed. Even the star systems change their positions and composition. Only your race can survive, although their technology level may be reduced, along with their number of ships, populations, planets, systems, etc. But you will have attained the ultimate victory over your enemies. Best of all, this weapon can be used an infinite amount of time, or at least until your computer dies on you, because you've clicked "New Game" too many times!!

Of course, this advice is foolish, moronic, and totally made just for a laugh.

Do not forget the Almighty Weapon of Incredible Devastating Potential, Whose Name Should Not Be Spoken Aloud. This wonderful weapon, truly one of its kind, is a marvel of technology, and the greatest achievement of mankind. Nobody else can discover such an advanced device, least of all an AI.

So, this panacea of all troubles is as follow. When faced with a powerful AI, and if your pride cannot be tarnished by the infamy of defeat, you should take over their Empires and execute their ministers. This will completely destroy the "intelligence" part of AI, leaving them with a bunch of planets and warships, but no ability to actually do anything useful with them.

Therefore, if you are losing a game pretty badly, I urge you to put this awesome weapon to good use. Prevent the AI from thinking, and you have won! If you still manage to lose, you should let the Council of Evil Overlords know about your failure, so that they will be able to retire you quickly and effectively.

I thank you Kindly Admiral Petrach for your words. However the Deadstar Continuum's mission will not stop there!

Our Enemies have been seen using "Population Transports". No doubt this is a ploy on thier part. Even the least advanced race knows Troops are enlisted from Population! This means that these ships that try and fool us by claiming they have 500million people on board are actually invasion vessels. The fact that our Long Range Scanners detect no shields, weapons or amour and 500million citizens on board should be disregarded as a glitch in new technology. We will destroy these "Troop Transports" and any civillians on board will be used as target practice for the Point Defence Cannons, as they are untrained troops!

In the Unlikely Event they are civillians then they have the potential for terrorism and must be quashed. Once all threats from these invaders are squashed we will move on to destroy all colonies with a population over 50 million as they are no doubt slave labour camps being forced to provide Increased construction power, Unfortuantly my very reliable information minister has reported a contagious diesease that infests these slaves and as such they cannot be welcomed into our Alliance, Planetary Bombardment will stop their suffering.

We the Deadstar Continnuum, with our impeccable moral standards as proclaimed by the Phong Confederation (Now Deceased by "unknown cause"), will then destroy all spacefaring vessels to end the suffering of their crews. With the lack of supplies making it through no doubt their crews have resorted to Canibalism, this genetic disaster waiting to happen will be met with hostile force. Although many of these ships are now disabled through the brave and marvellous efforts of the Foundation for Galactical Glory, Grandeur and Glamour they will meet the full force of the Deadstar War machine. Such ships even with all Weapons, Engines and Supply capabilities destroyed still pose a threat by floating in space waiting to collide with our vessels, we simply must take a proactive stance.

We Salute the Foundation for Galactical Glory, Grandeur and Glamour and we look froward to the release of your Star destroying class ships to take down entire systems of enlisted militia and troops.

The Deadstar Continuum, The Race with the Highest Humane and Moral Standing because no-one who faced us is alive to say otherwise, We have infringed no-ones human rights as we have not destroyed the human race...yet and The Race who sees no problem dispatching a 200 ship fleet to destroy a Heavily "armed" coloniser. Aliens fired through torpedo shoots can cause hull breaches.

Now to bring you back to the previously scheduled topic.

EDIT: Alneyan, If I ever start playing PBW again remind me to ally with you Our Propaganda machine would be unrivalled throughout the galaxy

The Foundation for Galactical Glory, Grandeur and Glamour (in any order) thanks the Deadstar Continuum for their kind support in this most grievous war. Our finest hour is upon us; either we meet the challenge posed by these perfidious alien species, or all civilisation as we know it will collapse. As we are speaking, wing after wing of enemy attack craft are heading towards our positions, and we detect high energy surges on most of these vessels (the scientist who claimed it was due to cryogenic equipment has been sent for reeducation. Nobody uses cryogenic anymore when indentured servants are eager to work for us).

Your people should be praised for their attention, and your efforts may very well have saved our Alliance from these enemy transports. Their betrayal is so perfect they did not even put any kind of weaponry on their troop transports, as if they would expect us to fall for such a gross trap. After all, do you know *any* ship able to carry five million people, let alone five hundred million? Of course not; only the Very-Top-Secret-Not-Funny-Highly-Advanced-Project Battlemoon would be able to do so.

Consequently, since the figures show they cannot be carrying civilians, it can only be spies, soldiers or rebels. In any case, they are a threat to our survival, and should be stopped at all cost. The Alliance grieves for the death of more lives, but we have little choice in this matter. If we do not take decisive steps to preserve our Society, death is our only future, and we shall become a mere footnote in the book of history.

The Foundation has managed to board and salvage one enemy ship, but has faced Abominations. A massive radioactive leak has mutated the crew into horrible alien beings of tremendous power, who nearly destroyed our boarding taskforce. As such, the Foundation has ordered the dissipation of these threats, for we cannot let them gain access to our ships. The one ship we salvaged is currently safe at a spaceyard, while our scientists attempt to understand what caused this mutation (and incidentally analyse the technology contained in this ship, for the benefit of science).

However, we would like to correct one of your statements: the Foundation is not building any kind of Star Destroyer. Instead, our present project involves the creation of ships able to fully restore a whole system to its initial state. As our planets are being polluted and our suns are slowly depleting their hydrogen resources, the Foundation has requested the deployment of ships able to improve the condition of any given system. Ecology does matter for us, and so this decision was necessary to ensure a bright future for our species. We believe there might be a low-impact explosion resulting from our efforts, but this should be dismissed as being a trivial side effect.

The Foundation would also like to present her newest project, the Awakening Long-Range Tactical Corvette and Heavy Support (previously code-named Exterminator, but this name has been dismissed because of its implications). This ship will be able to cure any disease within a planet by unleashing a previously unknown technology: the Winds of Purification. This device will proceed to fully clean up any malicious lifeform within the system, thus enabling our people to save the poor souls doomed with illness. Skeptics have argued this technology would open a void vortex (or Blackhole), but such pessimistic view should not be given any credit.

The Foundation for Galactical Glory, Grandeur and Glamour strives to bring this golden era in the galaxy, although she has been slowed down by the interference of the Enemies of Modernity. Nonetheless, this time of prosperity is nigh: most of our foes have acknowledged our wisdom, and bowed down to the Foundation (at least, one member of each species did so; they were then put in a museum, as they are the Last members of their species still alive).

For Glory, Grandeur and Glamour, the Foundation.

You should start playing Deadstar. I am sure positive and unaltered information (who said "propaganda"? Such a negative word) would be more than enough to make everyone else surrender to you. What can one do against words containing so much wisdom?
