Tech Tree browser - simple - weapons only
Over in the Mod Forum, I posted the beginnings of a tech tree browser. This very early program just shows the weapons on the left and their tech requirements and cumulative cost on the right. Let me know what you think.
Here's the link to download it:

Very very cool. D*mn useful, too. One suggestion, though: allow Users to set tech cost. Right now, it seems to be low tech-cost only.

Re: Tech Tree browser - simple - weapons only
Thanks for the feedback and the idea.
The new Version 0.12 lets you choose the tech cost. (and also widens the tech cost list box a bit)
Try clicking on the Anti Proton Beam and then scrolling down to the APB XII. Now, change the tech cost from low to medium to high to see the cost difference: 440,000 vs. 1,677,500 vs. 3,300,000.

Re: Tech Tree browser - simple - weapons only
Very nice little program.. even if you don't want the tech costs, it has a nifty little side effect- it generates text files with a list of all components and tech areas! Very condensed, good for modding reference
Anyway, I did run into one bug. When I tried to read in the Pirate mod's components, it gave me an error- said it had run into a [ and didn't know how to parse it.. even though the normal components.txt has that too and loaded fine.

I don't have the Pirate's Mod. Could you please post your components.txt and techarea.txt for me to test the program on? Thanks!

OK, if I did this right here there are. If not, the mod is in the mod forum here. Pirates and Nomads.

Re: Tech Tree browser - simple - weapons only
Thanks!
Looks like the techarea file didn't have a blank line between the Last techarea and the delimiters at the bottom of the file. I added code to handle this. Take a look and let me know what you think.
The Pirate Mod has a component called Hardened Bulkheads III that threw me for a loop until I noticed that this component acts as Point Defense Cannons. Whew! Pretty nifty idea, that...

Re: Tech Tree browser - simple - weapons only
I'm not sure WHAT that does. It's only on the III Version, has a 99 reload rate, and does no damage. Odd..
EDIT: I checked it, and the error I reported before is gone. Thanks!
But being who I am, I found another one. Load components.txt. Then load ANOTHER components.txt without exiting. The program doesn't clear the first one, and the results are... weird.

I believe that's the Tachyon Dampener... Might be something else, I just recently started playing P&N mod. Basically all it does is absorb attacks from weapon-damaging weapons.
