Re: Off Topic: Favorite songs/movies/shows
Ooh- frighteningly close to my favourites -
Music: Old & new punk (esp offspring, snuff, Toy Dolls), two tone (madness etc), reggae (especially the old stuff), moby, cake, prodigy, asian dub foundation, more...
Films: Akira, Aliens, Blade Runner, 5th Element, Lost Boys, Muppet Movies (why not=-),Raisin' Arizona, Shooting Fish, Trainspotting,
TV: AbFab(uk Version), Buffy (sorry), Farscape, Jam, Spaced, Vidz, more...
Just to take the thread even further off topic, which was the best alie* film?
My vote is for Aliens: Special Edition. Introduced some great themes / ideas into scifi and made some great points about certain military "types". (contrasted cleverly against Ripley's motherhood angst) Bloody good bughunt flick too .

Re: Off Topic: Favorite songs/movies/shows
Music: classical, soft pop/easy listening, light jazz.
Movies: Star Wars series, especially The Empire Strikes Back; The Princess Bride
TV: Nova, Scientific American Frontiers. If I weren't for PBS, I'd hardly watch any TV at all.

Re: Off Topic: Favorite songs/movies/shows
Music: Dream Theater, Progressive Metal in general, Deftones, Disturbed, alternative in general (esp. the harder stuff), Enya, Dead Can Dance, Vast, Journey, some classical (some Mozart, Faure, Tchaikovsky, Brahms), lots more. I basically don't like rap, R&B, or country, but that's about it =)
Movies: Aliens (II was DEFINITELY the best =) ), Star Wars (of course), Conan the Barbarian, Terminator II, Matrix, Princess Bride, The Story of Us, Dune (though the sci-fi channel Version was the best, I like the old David Lynch Version too), Braveheart, Highlander (first one only), Star Trek: First Contact, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and lots more =) I like movies.
TV: don't watch it much, to be honest. About the only shows I've watched in recent years that I liked are Babylon 5 (GREAT stuff), and Star Trek: TNG.

Re: Off Topic: Favorite songs/movies/shows
My favorite Sci-Fi series of all time is Babylon 5. Up until now, the Sci-Fi channel has been my very best friend because they are showing both B5 and ST:TOS. But...
TNN (formerly The Nashville Network) but now reborn as The National Network has bought up the rights for Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Star Trek: Voyager. They are scheduled to begin showing ST: TNG this fall 2001. Whoop!

Re: Off Topic: Favorite songs/movies/shows
Hrm.
Music -- I used to wake up to either an oldies station or a 'classic rock' station. Simon & Garfunkel, the Drifters, the Temptations, Steppenwolf, occasionally jazz or classical... whatever. Rarely anything recent 'tho, and no rap or "boy band" abominations.
Movies -- Again varied. Everything from Godzilla movies (*only* the classic man-in-the-rubber-suit ones, 'tho, not the recent CGI heresy), to the Alien/Aliens, to war movies (_Stalag 17_, _Bridge over the River Kwai_, _The Thin Red Line_, many more...), misc. action/suspense (Hrm. _Goldfinger_, _T2_) to interesting dramas like _Shawshank Redemption_, _Treasure of the Sierra Madre_ and Casablanca. Not fond of romantic "comedies", gross-out movies, overly predictable stuff, or slasher horror. Oh, and I watch the occasional bit of Extra Cheese (_Escape from L.A._ and _Army of Darkness_ are two well-done examples IMHO).
TV -- occasionally Frontline or Nova, _Washington Week in Review_, _Wall Street Week_, some Simpsons episodes, occasionally _West Wing_.

Re: Off Topic: Favorite songs/movies/shows
Movies Aliens (didn't care for Alien3 or Resurrection all that much) I liked the Laser Disc Version not sure how the Special Edition differs since I haven't seen that one yet. T1/T2, True Lies, The Last Boy Scout, Die Hard, Red Dawn (bad plotline, but a sem-decent action flick), Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man (the one with Mickey Rourke)
Music I tend towards loud, some of Ministry's older stuff, White Zombie/Rob Zombie, AC DC, Aerosmith etc. I tend to listen to just about anything though if I'm in the mood. I do have a thing for theme songs and game music though, like the opening songs to Mask of the Phantasm and Batman Beyond. I love the blues song played during the Manhattan Project clip in Civ II (ps if anyone knows the title of this song I'll be your friend for life, I wrote customer service and they had no clue where the song is from), the driving music from Fallout II, and the intro to Brotherhood of Steel.
I don't watch a lot of TV but I do like Dark Angel and 7 Days. Special Unit 2 is kind of campy but is good for a laugh.
