Default How does SAM targeting and damage factored?

I am curious as to how this is programmed into the code. I have noticed that in many games with air strikes (other than pre-turn strikes such as true bomber and obviously stealth aircraft in game) that a fighter/bomber usually will take 2-4 SAM hits and still manage to pull off the attack. I would think a 2 hit SAM hit would be the final for the plane? Also Patriots seem to blot the plane from the sky with massive damage. I am sure if I was the pilot of any plane being targeted by a SAM that I would be doing all the counter measures I could throw the missile off, but what is exactly 1 point of damage any ways? Not a complaint just curious as to how it is calculated

Thanks
