P&N Combat Results RE: HB components.
I was simming a battle with P&N V1.5p.
With one BlackHole Class Combat Fortress (which has 6120 hitpoints in Hardened bulkheads (92% absorption)), going up against Phong DNs.
As expected, the shields held out long enough for me to take down one DN, and I disabled a second before my shield grid was destroyed.
Now I started taking internal damage. two HEMs slam me, but the HBs worked great, blocking most of the damage, and all I really lost was a single engine. Now I was slower than the enemy, but with good ranged weapons, I could still reach out and touch someone. Another Phong DN went down, and I took 1500 damage, losing only a PDC and one Polaron Cannon. I'd managed to rip apart most of the shields on the Last DN, but then they got a lucky hit, and my Talisman was destroyed. 5% chance to hit at range 4, and the enemy would not let me get that close. I spent 12 more combat turns absorbing bLast after bLast, but then combat ended. I had taken 6500 out of 8000 damage, and would have been stuck in spacedock for around 2 years
The moral of this story: on a $100,000 dreadnaught, put a backup talisman on!
Also, the 50kT combination of MC, bridge, LS, CQ, helps a lot. You can lose any one of the components, and not lose your ship.

Yes, the larger the capital ship, the greater the need to ensure its "survivability" for the long term. So redundant C&C is very helpful. I do this with my BB and larger hulls. Also, an extra crew does help against boarding parties!

s_j, what mod are you using?
Edit:
Never mind, I figured it out.

By HB, do you mean Hyperionbase?

No, he's talking about the Hardened Bulkheads component that he's modded.
