A couple of suggestions
For those who don’t know about me, I am an old grognard from the paper maps and counters days. I have been playing and purchasing the steel panthers series since the first one came out in the mid 90’s. I probably play the game at least once a week, usually the modern version and usually after 2000. I play single player campaign games usually.
I have a suggestion for this game. What gives a game longevity? It is the ability to edit and modify to ones own likes and dislikes. This game has that, as far as modifying the OOB’s. I am suggesting taking that to the next level. I would like to see the ability to edit the actual countries in the game. Right now you can edit them somewhat, by changing flags and moving OOB’s around. Even after you do these things, you still have the old country that you replaced still showing up on some of the screens. You also have the training, experience levels, etc. being derived from the old country.
What if you basically had a screen in a mobhack type program that you could upload a flag bmp, type in country name and country training, experience, etc.? This way a user could easily add/subtract the nations that he plays. I know every so often a request comes up for various nations to be added that players would like to use. I, personally, would pay extra for a editor program of this type.
I know that most of these far reaching changes are rejected but I would appreciate your consideration.
I do have a somewhat minor change that I would like to see also. In the battle mode you pick the two countries that you would like to fight. When you get to the purchase screen, you have an “allies” button where you can attach another country to play with you. I would like that option in the campaign mode. It is not available when you purchase your army in a user generated campaign. Like I said in my intro, I enjoy single player campaign. It would be nice to pick the UK and maybe have a Canadian company attached to your main British force for the entire campaign. I think you can pick them in the support portion of purchasing but you would not have them advance in experience like your main force.
Anyway just a couple of suggestions that I have been thinking about for while.

Re: A couple of suggestions
I like your idea about being able to edit countries more fully, but I confess I know nothing about code. So I will bow the coders who can tell us just how high a hurdle this would be!

You can purchase allied soldiers in the campaign. You just cant have them as your core troops, but only as support. Is that what you mean, being able to add them to your core?

Re: A couple of suggestions
Which will not be happening, anytime soon.
The Allies page loads the foreign OOB, leader values, name tables etc and then creates the formations and units, before returning to the main OB table and re-reloading all the creation data for that.
Which is all well and good for one single battle. There wont be any code to look up nationality, load the entire foreign data set and then do calculations for that for each test for e.g. leadership progress, new leader (if killed) and so on and so forth.
And then there is the "change unit" upgrade page - which unit set do we allow for upgrades, the home or the away set? (cant be both - or several if umpteen allies are present). If we stick to away, then how many end users will now whine endlessly about not being able to give their Ruritanian auxiliaries shiny Grumble IV MBTs like the main Ferengi core and they are stuck with the old Ruritanian T34-76 in 1999?.
What happens if the Ruritanian allies are only available for 1 year of a three year long campaign eh?. We cant just delete Ruritanian formations since the end user may have cross attached all over the place.
What if the end user went hog-wild with more than 1 ally in the core force?.
Too many variables and knots to get twisted into.
You are playing as the Ferengi, and any allies are simply another form of support troops. And that is all.
