In case you missed it on the front page at PBW.
-----------------------
The next month is going to be a big one for us here at PBW. The long anticipated server relocation will be taking place. We are going to do everything possible to make this a quick and painless operation with as little downtime as we can manage.
Here's what you can expect:
At some point in the next week or two, the server will be taken down. We will try to give you 24 hours notice of this, but we can't guarantee it. The shipping (600 miles' worth) and setting up at the new location may take as long as a week, so the service will be unavailable during that time.
Before now and the when the server is taken down, we will be doing cleanup, backups, regular maintenance and other general "get ready" stuff. Most of this won't affect the server at all, but there may be some times when the server is unavailable for few minutes to an hour. Any time we are doing anything that will take the server offline like this we will post something in the Shrapnel forums.
What can you do to help?
We're glad you asked. First of all, you could help us by cleaning up any games you have on the server that you are not playing any more. Also, if you are considering starting a new game that you don't think will get underway for a few weeks, consider holding off on putting it on the server for now.
Also, be sure and check the Shrapnel forums before emailing
admin@pbw.cc if you notice the site is down. We may have already answered your question there.
Try to limit changes to your account for the next few weeks. Like your email address, password, etc. This shouldn't be a problem, but if something bad does happen and we have to restore off of a backup any account changes you made after the backup will be gone.
If you have a game that you want to keep playing for the week the server is down, talk to your game owner now. He needs to start saving the game turns, and make sure he has everyone's email addresses so he can keep the game going via email.
If you haven't yet made a donation to PBW, this might be a good time to consider one. For those of you who have already donated, thank you again. This move is possible because of your generosity.
And finally, be patient with us. In the long run it will be worth it as it will make the PBW service even better.
