Another missile question
A du'oh question no doubt, but ...
I have some vessels that hold more than 1 capitol ship missile (as an example). Yet - when they fire - I only see one. Do they stack?
I've considered adding torps to some missile boats to get them in slightly closer. Bad strat?
If I mix them - will the ship fire everything at once or will it fire off missiles then move in closer, fire off torps, move back out, etc?
What about adding a DUC/PBB into the mix to cover the down time? Or are PD's a better choice?
TIA.

Re: Another missile question
Elowan, there should be a little number next to the missile image which shows the number of them which is stacked.
I personally would put torps on missile boats as you dont want them to be close. If the enemy is outrunning my missiles I change the strategy to 'optimal' which means the missile tubes get flushed a bit closer
IIRC, different weapons fire at different ranges which suit them in accordance with ther strategy selected
IMHO, best tactic IS DONT MIX, beam ships go close, missile boats say at long range and shell

Re: Another missile question
Elowan, the reference to the OOK's is because I am going to Borneo tomorrow and am just a little excited about seeing orang-utangs in the wild.
I have now heard they have gibbons and macaques so I should amend my sig to add a few WHOOPS and AKK AAK AAKK AK AA AAAK AAA AAK's etc

Take some DEET with you.
I'm going to Kenya next month myself. Have a good trip.

As GT pointed out, missile stacks should have a number showing how many are stacked.
As for mixed-weapon ships, frequently a ship will fire off everything at once; in other words, your hypothetical ship would close to torp range and then fire both missiles and torps. One good thing about mixing is that sometimes a ship will fire all missiles at one ship and all beam weapons at another ship (not always, but sometimes). In strategic combat (or for AI ships), the "move-fire-move" strategy doesn't happen. That's been a topic for discussion many times - and led to the range bonuses on weapon platforms (it used to be too easy to park just beyond max weapons range, then move in a couple squares, fire and move back out, thus never taking damage from weapon platforms (at least in tactical combat)).
One problem with adding other weapons to a missile ship is that you'll stay at fairly close range, rather than staying out of the way. If that doesn't bother you, (and in most cases, it shouldn't) go for it.

Re: Another missile question
Take some DEET with you.
I have enough DEET to scarify half of the known world. I have been on the bloody malaria tablets for the Last week and ooh, the side effects are horrible I can tell you.
Have fun in Kenya, watch out for bearded canadians with weak knees and bad beards called Dave or Saxon, dont trust them especially if they ask you if you want to see their moose
