OT... Starfire Board game!
Was wondering, if anyone knows what I'm talking about here, but does anyone know of any Starfire PBEM Groups on the net around? Does anyone even play Starfire by e-mail? I haven't messed with Starfire in a long time and I was hoping I could find some websites to at least play the game by E-mail.
Since Space Empires does have some roots with Starfire, I would imagine their has to be a couple of other Starfire fans out their. Any info would be appreciated.

Magnum 357,
That was a great game. I even made spread sheets to help play it. I stopped plahing for two reasons:
1) I got tired of beating the AI
2) I fealt a computer would make it a lot easier.
(Thanks Arron)

Re: OT... Starfire Board game!
Hey, I didn't know they made a "4th Edition" to the Starfire system. I have the old 3rd edition. I went to the site but it looks pretty old. Is it still possible to buy Glactic Starfire from website? Anyone know?

Re: OT... Starfire Board game!
Yeah, you can buy it from the website, I did. There should be a shopping link somewhere on it.
I would warn you though, 4th edition has lots of groovy new stuff but it loses the timeline and simplifies itself a lot
even worse, no more Tabbies!!?

Re: OT... Starfire Board game!
Could you please be a little more specific? I don't mind them not using the "Offical" time line of Starfire (I usually just made up my own races like in Space Empires) so its not a big deal to me. But what do you mean by "even worse, no more Tabbies!!"? Granted, I didn't get all the components to the 3rd editon, but I do have a good majority.
also, I read on the web site that it simplifies "Imperial Starfire" then the tactical game. Which is fine buy me because I liked to add more rules to the Tactical part of the game and wish they had simplified the Strategic postion some.
One question though, is it better to buy it Online buy credit card or by snail mail? The Credit Card process seems a bit strange, but I might have to wait months with Snail Mail. Which method did you go by?

Re: OT... Starfire Board game!
Magnum,
My reasons are purely personal. Strategic in 4th edition is much simplified, but too simplified IMHO. Tactical combat looks very similar and the research tree is very interesting, in the respect that different races can research radically different technologies, rather than everybody kind'of going for the same thing.. a certain amoutn of balancing appears to have happened as well, for example, the power of fighters has been greatly reduced so that a squadron may fly past a battle ship and do not much more than knock down a few shields, in turn, the battleship may only pick one or two fo the buzzbugs off - this is better IMHO
My main concern I suppose is that I was a MAJOR fan of 3rd edition, even though I acknowledge the record keeping could sometimes get like sitting an accountancy exam
I also really liked the timeline, to the extent that I love the Khanate of Orion (aka the Tabbies)
Re purchasing it? I cannot really help you here given I am in England. I ordered it through my local hobby shop as I decided I wanted to give them some business, in north america, I guess credit card would be better if only for the intrinsic insurance and what we call 'section 75 protection'

Re: OT... Starfire Board game!
Well, it still sounds very interesting. I like the idea of Tech Trees. That would man races would have weaknesses and strenghts in technology and Tactics. I'm also agree that I'm sort of glad that Fighters have been toned down a little. In the 3rd Edition, races would use them as much as Battleships and Superdreadnoughts. I personally think Carriers more as a Support vessel then a Main Fighting ship like you see with some Sience Fiction shows.
Could you explain breifly on how the Strategic System has been "simplified"? Its hard for me to imagine how they could have made that potion of the game simpler. Any examples would help.
