Default Troops and bombardment

I would like to see MM make a change. I never have used troops yet. I think colonies which live under a dome should be wiped out easily. Colonies on planets that are natural to their race on the other hand should be very difficult to completly exterminate. This population should form gorrila type units and should force the player to use troops to mop up.

This would be so much more realistic and fun compared to just wiping them out from orbit so easily! Planet bombardment and assault should be a longer drawn out campaign, like Guadalcanal was in WW2.

Also ship weapons should have different damage Ratings against planets than they use againts ships!

I would have to agree with the damage rates on natural planets since the attack beam would have to be more wide spread to kill the pop. since we would like to think they live alover the planet and not just in a single area. Maybe after the pop meter goes to 10k, then this would represent a planet that your colony ship could use, but your pop would have to face random attacks until you send in troops to either wipe them out or to control them, then you would have to take a little time to get them to accept you and be part of your empire.(maybe this would occur after the main force is killed off or peace is declared . Until then they would still random raid. which would slow down your pop growth due to untimely deaths.

I agree completly troops are a non-event in the game at the moment. I havent been invaded by the a.i since i bought the game and ive fiddled with the settings but still no invasions. I think genocides the way warfare going to be in this game which is a shame, especially for the role-playing side of things.

I also think troops should be standard technology to all races. It shouldn't have to be researched. It's not Rocket Science!
It's a technology every race would have long before they reached outer space!

Agreed...
In fact I did make Troops and Troop weapons starting tech...

For bombardment, I think planets should have a base Armor rating like scattering armor which completely ignores damage under a certain amount, then the population modifier should be applied to it... big weapons, esp. those designed for bombardment should be able to glass a planet... but a standard fleet should have difficulty at best, this would force people to either use troops or make specialized ships for bombardment.
