Would it anger B5 fans if..

I made a race using a mixture of B5 ships?

at the moment I do not have any 3D modeling software, so all I can do is apply different textures to jpeg or bmp files.

I did't want to anger "purists" as I plan to mix Vorlon, Membari, etc ships into a set with the portrait of something I found Online at Universal Shipyards as the race portrait. And probably use existing bmp for weapon platforms, mines, satellites, etc.

Well understood. The site I went to for B5 images said the they were freeware, as long as use was not for profit and credits were given.

Though I guess I could email the artists/webmaster of my intents.

I guess I need to rephrase the question. If, given permission by the artists, would the B5 fans get mad if I mixed race ships from B5, SW, ST for an "organic" race I want to make from scratch?

I want to re-color and/or texturize some of the Vorlon, Shadow, Membari, etc along with maybe some others (SW and/or ST) to "flesh out" the set.

I am not at all certain I can get a consistent theme by doing this, but am going to try.

I wouldn't get mad, not at all. Do as you like, he, it's YOUR! shipset.

BTW: I don't like the mix but that's just my personal taste.

I know I guy that wouldn't like it. You should have heard how he went after a guy showed some 3D images he'd made in moray.

They looked like some B5 ships. Can't remember wich one's.

The only people that I have seen in the community that get upset at something like this is some of the roleplayers. They were not upset at the shipsets but at people that use the shipsets and roleplayed a race from one of the shows that the shipset represented. The reason I believe (maybe they could explain it better I was just lurking through their forum so I don't know for sure) was that anyone could use a B5 shipset and play that race so if multiple people picked the same one there could be confusion and arguments (which had already happened with the multiple people that were Terrans and wanted to use earth as a homeworld). But they didn't mind if someone used the shipset as long as they roleplayed someone different than the race from the show.
But for your own use with the game with single player or your friends no one else (if no copyrights are infringed) has any say about it.

Thanks for the responses here. Eventually, I do mean way down the road, I hope to have my own B5 -styles race. At the moment, I find that my graphic changes (mainly a texture change) look like poop, so until I can get this down right, I will not put it up for "public consumption". I am a fan of B5 and SW, so I don't want these changes to look like poop.
