Default no-ip.com

Someone else already tried setting up a server with this and it didn't work, but I figure it's worth a second attempt.

Could someone try to upload a pretender to

deadkitty.no-ip.info
Port : 5555

It doesn't work for me. If you have a router, do you have the ports forwarded properly?

try

66.245.31.137
Port : 5555

If that doesn't work then it's probably the router

FYI, in my experience, especially with NAT routers, things can get flaky. I've tried logging into a server, been unable to connect, and then re-typed the IP/port information and had it work. I wasn't a typo the first time, either. What I've learned is that if you can't log into a server, that doesn't mean you won't be able to do so five minutes later, without anyone changing anything on the other end.

Someone, please try logging on both ways.

First with

deadkitty.no-ip.info
Port : 5555

then if that doesn't work

66.245.31.137
Port : 5555

then post which way worked for you

Dominions doesn't support the name variety, so it won't work. But I might just look into it for the next patch.

I second the request for DNS lookup of the server name. It should be fairly simple to implement... Pretty please?

Hmmm pros and cons. Its in my area and Im not sure if it would be easy or even a good idea. I can see the benefit for those who get assigned different IPs all the time and use services which always rename the IP the same each time. But I also see a lot of Users who tend to have the wrong idea of what their machine is named. "I told them my machine name but it doesnt work" but asking and finding out their IP number .... well anyway, I can see pros and cons.

Huh?

As it is now I had to write a script that displays my remote IP, install a webserver and what not. Just to make sure my players will always find the server again. This is just annoying both for people hosting and playing games. It's already hard enough to get a game going.

I doubt there will be a lot of support requests from people who can't figure out their hostname. I saw the confusion about local and remote IPs though... Most server based games support this "feature" and gamers are used to it. There will always be people who can't distinguish between local and remote IPs or don't know how to use a service like no-ip. But having both options doesn't seem to have a single drawback for me. I really can't understand your point, Gandalf.

Don't get me wrong I'm not asking for a Gamespy (like) interface (though it would be nice). Just a simple DNS lookup.
