Well, we had a very interesting blitz going : Human pretenders only (ie, pretender chassis's whose magic paths cost 10 points). Definately makes for a different flavor game - the Hall of Fame was actually full of national commanders for a change, and the national armies / troops got a full usage since there weren't any SC pretenders. (Although Norfleet did finally get spelled up enough to go on a killing spree sometime around turn 20.)
Sadly, after switching to Quickhost, the game files got corrupted - the fatherland file was, according to Norfleet (who was hosting) over 20 megabytes.
Also got a "Wheelchair" game going on Saturday - all pretenders had to be immobile chassis's. Again - another very fun way of making for a different flavor'd game. And again - Norfleet's pretender went on a killing spree spree starting around turn 7 or 8. Such a shame he wound up with a nice "Death" mark beside him in the Hall of Fame.
It'd be kind of nice if there were command line switches for the server to enforce different flavor'd pretenders (or to limit magic research to a certain level, a la the demo). Starting a game via IRC this way was easy, but on Mosehansen it'd be about impossible to get everyone on the shame sheet of music, also it'd be nice to be able to do it for single player.
Highly recommended variant games though - you actually get to see some of the pretender chassis's get used that you
never see people use.
