uh oh... I think I\'m screwed!
So I just started a game on Faerun and I'm playing Vanehiem and it looks like I have a problem:
My pretender does not have sailing.
It seems like I can not get off my starting group of islands. I also ( foolishly? ) did not give my pretender astral or air magic so teleport and air trapese are out of the question.
I tried an experimental game and it seems that boots of flying will not do the trick either.
Am I screwed? It sure looks like it to me. Dang. That sucks. I hate to go computer so early. But my pretender is kind of important!

Well I tried boot of flying and I could not go across the ocean provinces. I guess it makes sense flying stuff has to rest I guess....
Kind of messes up people who are on islands to start off though! yeash.

You can make him a magic carpet, or conquer the intervening sea and then have him cross underwater using a simple water-breathing item. I think Faerun has a number of amphibious provinces which your sailing armies should be able to acquire. Not to mention mercenaries and other ways to attack underwater.

Re: uh oh... I think I\'m screwed!
Is it crucial that your pretender be able to leave your islands, and fast? If your survival depends on your ability to leave, perhaps because you're using an SC pretender and your island group is very tiny and will shortly be exhausted, then yeah, things are looking bad. If, however, it's not absolutely crucial that your pretender be able to leave right this very moment, then there are many ways you can later rectify the matter, such as pocket ships, empowerment, or scuba.

Re: uh oh... I think I\'m screwed!
Thanks for the tips guys. But it looks like I am screwed since I would like him off my tiny islands fast and that means before turn 20!
I'm sorry Zapmeister if you are reading but I guess I'm going AI. That's two people that I know of *already* that are going AI: me and JJ. I'm really sorry. And I'm pretty sure that arcosphale is out too since he has been the Last player every turn. DOH, sorry. I'll do my research next time before I make my pretender. JEEEZE!

Zapmeister,
Even though I am screwed I'll continue playing. I mean the turns are short now so why not get some experience.
But we are missing arcosphale and Caelum. And we did not get thr 17 players that we all wanted.
Like I said I'll continue playing, but since we are only at turn 4 we could easily restart.

Re: uh oh... I think I\'m screwed!
If your timetable only requires that you be able to leave your islands by turn 20, it'll be easy enough to get the construction research needed to forge scuba gear, or pocket ships. If your pretender is stealthy, sneaking through the underwater provinces can avoid having to take them on. Or you can just bLast your way through, or use the pocket ship to sail across: Doing this by turn 20? Simple. If you want it done EARLIER, you may have to reprioritize.

Re: uh oh... I think I\'m screwed!
Norfleet I think you and I have different definitions of simple!
My pretender can already go beneath the sea, he has 4 levels of water magic. Of course the problem is taking the province. It's basically impossible for him. He's tough, but not solo provinces tough. Too bad for me!
I had great hope for pocket ships before looking them up and seeing the requirements ( construction 6, 3N 3A), which places them in the "very hard to ever make" Category.
I think this kind of sinks me, to be honest. But I'll play a little.

If he can't actually take provinces, why are you so anxious to move him around at all? What exactly is he good at, then?
