Re: Cheats?
Check the printed manual you got with the game, other than that never use them.

When you set up the game click the cheats box.
Once in the game open the empire status window, hold down the control and shift key and type "money"... that gives you 100k of each resource and 100k reseach points.
If you highlight the first item in a build que and type "fast" that item will be finished in one turn...hold down the control and shift key here too.

Re: Cheats?
Futher info, If you open the BUILD (Wrench) Control Window while in a game, and hold donw the CTRL and type FAST Everything within the build list will be reduced. You may have to use this cheat a couple of times to get "Everything" down to 0, but normally only once will do.
I used the cheats to see if they helped with the game, they do not. It makes the game way to easy. My advise, don't use them.

Re: Cheats?
An undocumented cheat can be run when colonizing planets w/ruins. Single player only, I think.
Save the game beforehand, then colonize. If you get a random assortment of techs and don't like them you can reload the game and try again and get a different set.
It will only work twice, though. If you want to keep trying to get different techs then you have to make two saved games. One to hold your place, then the other to test out the ruins. I.e., I save one file as 'current' then another as 'preart'. After I save the 'preart' file I colonize the planet and see what techs I get. If I get non-unique techs I reload preart and colonize again, getting different techs this time. If I still don't like it I can reload 'current' resave 'preart' and try again.
Or at least I used to. Now I save it so I can reload in case I get one of the colonization techs. It's much more challenging to research those techs all on your own.

Re: Cheats?
another cheat regarding the Random ruins is you just send a colony ship, no people, just the ship. have it colonize, get the tech, and then abandon it. Works good when your fighting for territory, and don't want to loose a colony.

Or just don't want to fight a war over a system you don't want or need.
