Design type & Strats.
Just wondering if there is a way to set what the default strategy for a design type is? One reason is because I would like to change what some of the types are, or add my own.
Thanks much.

Re: Design type & Strats.
There is a checkbox field called Stats\Strategy between the Hide Obsolete checkbox field and the Simulator button at the bottom right of the Design Screen.

Re: Design type & Strats.
Two things... One that doesn't change the default. (if you modify the design after setting it, it will revert to the default, which, for a unknown type, is Optimal Firing Range) Two, that wasn't what I was talking about... I want to be able to change the defaults outside the game, like in a file or something.
Hope that clears up what I was looking for.

Re: Design type & Strats.
PurpleRhino- The way you are "supposed" to do that is placing a unique [Race]_AI_Strategies.txt file in you races subdirectory. However, as of Version 1.30 - these files are still not being followed. Therefore, the current work-around is to place them in the race's .emp file via saving an .emp file during the first turn of the game after you have modified the "strategies" in the "Empire" window. We have forwarded this error several times to MM and hope it will be fixed in the next patch. Hope this helps

Re: Design type & Strats.
Dang, I guess I'm still not clear enough... Ok, say for example, I want to create a TYPE of ship called 'Scout' and assign a default stategy to it... How do I do that. Now I know that the AI won't understand how to use the 'Scout' but there are some ship types (Troop Transports come to mind) that aren't defined. And I plan on adding these to my files... But I want to add my own names so I don't have to always change my ships' strategies.
Hopefully that is clear enough... Sorry, but my mind has been mush lately.

Re: Design type & Strats.
Is there any file in se4\data that matches up the types from DefaultDesignTypes to the strategies in DefaultStrategies?
For that matter, is there a file in se4\data that matches up the formations to the strategies?
Based on TampaGamer's post, I wonder if these things are hard coded into the game engine?

I have added the Scout to the Terran race and they seem to use them in place of Attack Ships for exploring the systems. I am still testing this, but will be glad to send you the files so you can test them also.

I've found that the default for ships without weapons is Don't Get Hurt, but I don't think I've ever created a new type that wasn't armed.

Quoting CAPTQ:
"I've found that the default for ships without weapons is Don't Get Hurt...
If you design an "attack ship" (design type) without weapons it will still be "Optimal Firing Range".
What Purple Rhino wanted was to create a new -DESIGN TYPE- with it a default strategy without having to change the strategy for every new ship.
I wanna do that too.
Help?
