Machine guns \"blast radius\"

Am I right the "blast radius" effect of Machineguns is tied to machinegun and AA classes?
Won't it be then better (if possible, of course) to tie it rather to weapon classes (3 and 4 respectively), as wpn class 3 is often found in forts (where the "sweeping fire" deserving the "blast radius" effect is also used)?
