Province Borders - Moddable?
Hi guys,
Just fooling around with the demo and I'm finding the thick black wobbly province borders are a bit off putting and (for me) spoil the nice maps.
Can I mod them at all? Where do I start?
Thanks.

Re: Province Borders - Moddable?
If you mean the borders on the (random or other) maps, you need just a graphics editor that can handle .rgb files. Then go to the \maps\ subfolder in Dominions main folder, choose the map you want to edit, and edit. As long as you don't add or remove any of the pure white pixels (255, 255, 255) that mark the center of a province, you have nothing to worry. You might copy the map somewhere safe, or move the white pixels to another layer on your graphics program of choice, or do some other preventive measure to make sure you don't accidentally add or remove any provinces. That'd mean you have to edit the .map file, which has everything from terrain details to neighbouring provinces.

There are no limits in mapmaking. You can add everything to your maps. Like Endo has said, 1 white pixel must be in all provinces, that is all.

Re: Province Borders - Moddable?
Thanks, and I should have clarified that I'm looking at Random Maps so far, the borders on the other maps with the Demo are (IMO) good.
I tried Endo's suggestion but there is no map in the maps\subfolder other than the two which ship with the Demo. I've also checked all the other grapic files I can find and none seem relevant.
I guess it's hardcoded, but just wish that they were a bit less 'in your face' on the random maps.

The random maps might be in each game's own folder, then. I seem to recall seeing __perhaps-a-number.rgb and __perhaps-a-number.map or something files in there.

Re: Province Borders - Moddable?
The borders are in the image. They can be changed by various paint-program methods. Change the color, blur the edges, make them transparent, etc. Of course you have to do that with every map that you want to change altho there are tools to automate such things.

Re: Province Borders - Moddable?
If you have photoshop, it can do wonders with images, including borders. I will post some examples later today or tomorrow, that what borders are we gonna use in our TC mod for the "official map" in it. You will love it.
