Default My Ships won\'t fire their missiles

Ok, guess I am a total noob. When i go into tactical combat my ships never fire their missiles while the AIs can. Am I missing a piece of technology or what? I have click on the missiles on my ship and nothing happens and I have double clicked on the enemy ships and nothing happens. All other weapons and bombs work fine. ANy help would be appreciated thanks

Just make sure that the missile picture is highlighted in blue/cyan - I think you might be deselecting the missiles when you click on them. Also make sure they have been reloaded - there is small red hash marks that appear in the weapon pictures when they are reloading.

If they're highlighted than you just move the cursor over the enemy ships and click once - all your weapons should fire if they are in range.

Good Luck.

I doubt this is what's causing the problem, but missles can't target satellites and fighters.

You have to make sure you've selected the right ship, of course. Your missiles are appearing in the weapon panel at the upper right? Then you have to make sure your pointer has selected the enemy ship. Mouse pointers can be deceptive. Try clicking a little bit "below" the ship to account for the offset of the mouse pointer.

Has the range/damage been modified on these missiles? If you've change them to do 0 damage at range 1 as some people do (minimum range) then I think they won't fire.

Have you modified the data files in any other way? You could have discovered a bug.

Give us a screenshot or something so we can see whats going on.
Preferably with both the ship in view and selected, and with its description window open (right click the ship)

Reasons why missile would fail to fire:
- Out of range.
Since you're within beam range, you're pretty much guaranteed to be in missile range.

- Can't target that type of unit.
Since you were firing at planets, thats not it.

- Broken Mod datafile.
If you're using a mod you downloaded, it would have been tested for this.

- Manual disarm
If you click on the missile pic, you will turn the background from blue to black, and the missile is now disarmed and will not fire. Click again to re-arm, or reselect your ship to arm all weapons.

- Reloading still
Most missiles take three turns to reload after firing, count the number of little red bars on the picture of your weapon to see how many "end turns" you have to do before you can fire again.

From what I've read, this could be your problem.

Do you see tiny little missle that fies towards the target?
In my first tact battle, I reset the game 3 times when my missile "failed" to fire. Then on the third load, I notice tiny little missle that fies towards the target.
Maybe thats just me...

If you have the fast combat on (one of the options) things like missle fire can happen so quickly it is hard to notice. If firing on a planet, you may not notice the effects, as it may just be a population drop.

Try turning that option off. I am reaching, but you never know.

Something that threw me for a loop the first time I played is that the missile doesn't actually go anywhere when it is first fired. Depending on what race you're playing if you're not waiting another turn, the missile icon might be masked by the firing ship since it's in the same map square still.
