Off Topic, BUT very good information
Ok, I purchased an new GF3 card, and was having some problems with getting it to run some 3d applications. Well, I emailed the cards manufacturer about it, and they sent me an email. The info they gave me in that email was awsome. They even recommended a diagonsitic utility that just kicks arse over anything I have seen to date, and guess what, its free.
quote: Please use the diagnostic utility called SiSoft Sandra to see if
your motherboard is AGP 2.0 or 1.0. You can download this program from www.download.com by typing a search for the program in their search engine.
Once the program is installed on your system, go to Mainboard Information,
then scroll down to AGP Bus, and the Version will be there. If it is not 2.0
compliant, then this video card will probably not function correctly as it
follows the AGP 2.0 standard. This is not the same as AGP 1x, 2x, or 4x as
these are bandwidths, not standards.
Download it, and check it out. I think you will enjoy what it can do for you.

Re: Off Topic, BUT very good information
Thanks Atrocities
I downloaded the utilities and have several useful new tips and bits of information.
I hope you got your GF3 card working even if I am a bit jealous. Guess I need to get a new system--I'm starting to have to pass on games because I can't meet the minimum requirements. And to think, only 3 or 4 years ago, my system was adequate. How time flies.

I think my old & valiant 486DX2 is going to challenge you to a duel. I believe it's a bit old-fashioned, you know

Why did you have to say duel so my old reliable Atari 1040 STE could hear? I'll never get him back into the closet now until he's vanquished your 486DX2.

Whew! good thing I didn't have my Commodore 64 on or it would start deuling my Compaq piece of junk (it is a fairly new computer but it has problems, big ones...). Then it would attack all of your computers.

I think I still have my old KayPro running CPM in my closet somewhere. (Some of you may wonder "What is CPM?" - an OS from a thousand years ago...)

Re: Off Topic, BUT very good information
Wow, I didn't mean to get everyone started on rememberances from the days of steam computing. I have stories of toggling in programs, using paper tape (punched on mylar for durability), submitting jobs with 20 boxes of punched cards only to have the operator drop them. I've got souvenirs too, like my chunk of "core" memory from an old Cyber machine. CPM is new stuff.
But I really wanted to say that Sandra is a useful utility and worth a try.
